New precise measurements of D[sub s][sup+] and D*[sub s][sup+] meson production from B mesons and q[bar q] continuum events near the[Upsilon](4S) resonance are presented in this paper. Using the BABAR data recorded in 1999 and 2000 of 20.8 fb[sup -1] on-resonance and 2.6 fb[sup -1] off-resonance, we measure the inclusive branching fractions (B[yields] D[sub s][sup+])= (10.93[+-] 0.19[+-] 0.58[+-] 2.73)% and (B[yields] D*[sub s][sup+])= (7.94[+-] 0.82[+-] 0.72[+-] 1.99)%, where the first error is statistical, the second is the systematic error, and the third is the error due to the D[sub s][sup+][yields][pi][sup+] branching fraction uncertainty. The branching fractions (B[yields] D[sup (*)][sub s][sup+][bar D](*))= (5.07[+-] 0.09[+-] 0.34[+-] 1.27)% and (B[yields] D*[sub s][sup+][bar D](*))= (4.07[+-] 0.42[+-] 0.53[+-] 1.02)% have been determined from the measured D[sup (*)][sub s][sup+] momentum spectra.

The branching fractions[Sigma][Beta](B[yields] D(*)[sub s][sup+][bar D](*))= (5.07[+-] 0.14[+-] 0.30[+-] 1.27)% and[Sigma][Beta](B[yields] D*[sub s][sup+][bar D](*))= (4.1[+-] 0.2[+-] 0.4[+-] 1.0)% are determined from the D(*)[sub s][sup+] momentum spectra.

The e[sup+]e[sup -] annihilation data recorded with the BABAR detector has been used to study B[sup 0] decays to D[sub s][sup (*)+] and D[sup*-] mesons. The production fraction of inclusive D[sub s][sup (*)+] and the corresponding momentum spectra have been determined. Exclusive decays B[sup 0][yields] D[sup*-] D[sub s][sup (*)+] have been identified with a partial reconstruction technique and their branching ratios have been measured. Fully reconstructed B[sup 0] decays in the hadronic modes B[sup 0][yields] D[sup*-][pi][sup+] and B[sup 0][yields] D[sup*-][rho][sup+] have been also studied and the measurement of their absolute branching fractions is reported.

Measurements have been made of the production rates of D[sup +] and D[sub s] mesons via the channels D[sup +]-[bar K]*[sup 0] [ell][sup +][nu][sub [ell]] and D[sub s] [yields] [phi][pi] in e[sup +]e[sup -] annihilation at [radical]s = 29 GeV in 220 pb[sup -1] of data collected by the Mark II detector. The measurements assume the current branching ratios, measured predominantly at [radical]s [approx-equal] 10 GeV and by fixed target experiments. Measurements of the total production cross-sections times the appropriate branching ratios, which are independent of any other measurements, and an upper limit for the ratio of branching ratios, [Lambda](D[sub s] [yields] [phi][ell][bar [nu]][sub [ell]])/[Lambda](D[sub s] [yields] [phi][pi])
