The authors study the decay B° 2!D*D*− K{sub S}° using (230 ± 2) x 106 B{bar B} pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B factory. They measure a branching fraction [Beta](B° 2!D*D*− K{sub S}°) = (4.4 ± 0.4 ± 0.7) x 10−3 and find evidence for the decay B° 2!D*− D{sub s1}+(2536) with a statistical significance of 4.6 [sigma]. A time-dependent CP asymmetry analysis is also performed to study the possible resonant contributions to B° 2!D*+D*− K{sub S}° and the sign of cos2[beta]. Their measurement indicates that there is a sizable resonant contribution to the decay B° 2!D*+ D*− K{sub S}° from a unknown D{sub s1}+ state with large width, and that cos2[beta] is positive at the 94% confidence level under certain theoretical assumptions.

The invariance of physical laws under the combination of exchange of particles with antiparticles (charge conjugation, C) and reversal of coordinates (parity, P) is called CP symmetry. The violation of CP symmetry was first discovered in 1964 in the neutral kaon system, and is in general one of the great puzzles of particle physics. The recent observation of CP violation in the B meson system has been a simultaneous success for model predictions and experiment. The opportunity now exists to probe details of the underlying mechanisms. This thesis presents measurements of the branching fraction and time-dependent CP-violating asymmetry in neutral B decays to J/[psi][pi][sup 0]. The decay amplitude for this channel features both tree and penguin diagram contributions, the interference of which can yield a result for the asymmetry differing from that found in the ''golden mode'' B[sup 0][yields] J/[psi] K[sub s][sup 0]. Using the measured branching fraction and CP asymmetry, constraints are placed on the ratio of penguin to tree amplitudes in B[sup 0][yields] J/[psi][pi][sup 0]. In addition, the impact on the CP asymmetry measurement in B[sup 0][yields] J/[psi] K[sub s][sup 0] is discussed. The results are presented for e[sup+]e[sup -] annihilation data collected with the BABAR detector on the[Upsilon](4S) resonance at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. The measurement of the branching fraction, based on about 23 million B[bar B] pairs collected between October 1999 and October 2000, yields BF(B[sup 0][yields] J/[psi][pi][sup 0])= (2.0[+-] 0.6 (stat)[+-] 0.2(syst)) x 10[sup -5]. With about 88 million B[bar B] pairs collected during the years 1999-2002, our results for the coefficients of the cosine and sine terms of the CP asymmetry are C[sub J/[psi][pi][sup 0]]= 0.38[+-] 0.41 (stat)[+-] 0.09 (syst) and S[sub J/[psi][pi][sup 0]]= 0.05[+-] 0.49 (stat)[+-] 0.16 (syst).

In this thesis work we have measured the following upper limits at 90% of confidence level, for B meson decays (in units of 10-6), using a statistics of 465.0 x 106 B$ar{B}$ pairs: ?(B0 → ?K0) 1.6 ?(Bsup0/sup → ??) 1.4 ?(Bsup0/sup → ?'?') 2.1 ?(Bsup0/sup → ??) 0.52 ?(Bsup0/sup → ??) 1.6 ?(Bsup0/sup → ?'?) 1.2 ?(Bsup0/sup → ?'?) 1.7 We have no observation of any decay mode, statistical significance for our measurements is in the range 1.3-3.5 standard deviation. We have a 3.5? evidence for B → ?? and a 3.1 ? evidence for B → ?'?. The absence of observation of the Bsup0/sup → ?Ksup0/sup open an issue related to the large difference compared to the charged mode Bsup+/sup → ?Ksup+/sup branching fraction, which is measured to be 3.7 ± 0.4 ± 0.1 [118]. Our results represent substantial improvements of the previous ones [109, 110, 111] and are consistent with theoretical predictions. All these results were presented at Flavor Physics and CP Violation (FPCP) 2008 Conference, that took place in Taipei, Taiwan. They will be soon included into a paper to be submitted to Physical Review D. For time-dependent analysis, we have reconstructed 1820 ± 48 flavor-tagged Bsup0/sup → ?'Ksup0/sup events, using the final BABAR statistic of 467.4 x 10sup6/sup B$ar{B}$ pairs. We use these events to measure the time-dependent asymmetry parameters S and C. We find S = 0.59 ± 0.08 ± 0.02, and C = -0.06 ± 0.06 ± 0.02. A non-zero value of C would represent a directly CP non-conserving component in Bsup0/sup → ?'Ksup0

The authors present measurements of the branching fraction and CP-violating asymmetries for neutral B decays to D*[sup[+-]] D[sup[-+]]. The measurement uses a data sample for approximately 88 million[Upsilon](4S)[yields] B[bar B] decays collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. They measure the branching fraction to be (8.8[+-] 1.0[+-] 1.3) x 10[sup -4] and the time-integrated CP-violating asymmetry between the rates to D*[sup -] D[sup+] and D*[sup+] D[sup -] to be[Alpha]= -0.03[+-] 0.11[+-] 0.05. They also measure the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetry parameters to be S[sub -+]= -0.24[+-] 0.69[+-] 0.12, C[sub -+]= -0.22[+-] 0.37[+-] 0.10 for B[yields] D*[sup -] D[sup+] and S[sub+-]= -0.82[+-] 0.75[+-] 0.14, C[sub+-]= -0.47[+-] 0.40[+-] 0.12 for B[yields] D*[sup+] D[sup -]. In each case the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic.

The authors measure the time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters in B0 2!K+K-K0 based on a data sample of approximately 277 million B-meson pairs recorded at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-meson Factory at SLAC. They reconstruct two-body B0 decays to [Phi](1020)K$0\atop{S}$ and [Phi](1020)K$0\atop{L}$. Using a time-dependent maximum-likelihood fit, they measure sin2[beta]eff([Phi]K0) = 0.48 ± 0.28 ± 0.10, and C([Phi]K0) = 0.16 ± 0.25 ± 0.09, where the first error is statistical, and the second is systematic. They also present measurements of the CP-violating asymmetries in the decay B0 2!f0(2![pi]+[pi]- )K$0\atop{S}$. The results are obtained from a data sample of 209 x 106 Y(4S) 2!B$\bar{B}$ decays, also collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. From a time-dependent maximum-likelihood fit they measure the mixing-induced CP violation parameter S(f0(980)K$0\atop{S}$) = - sin 2[beta]efff0(980)K$0\atop{S}$ = -0.95$+0.32\atop{-0.23}$ ± 0.10 and the direct CP violation parameter C(f0(980)K$0\atop{S}$) = - 0.24 ± 0.31 ± 0.15, where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. Finally, they present a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B0 2!f0(2![pi]+[pi]- )K$0\atop{S}$. From a time-dependent maximum likelihood fit to a data sample of 123 x 106 Y(4S) 2!B$\bar{B}$ decays they find 93.6 ± 13.6 ± 6.4 signal events corresponding to a branching fraction of [beta](B0 2!f0(980)(2![pi]+[pi]- )K0) = (6.0 ± 0.9 ± 0.6 ± 1.2) x 10-6, where the first error is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to model uncertainties.
