Higgs Potential And Naturalness After The Higgs Discovery written by Yuta Hamada and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-30 with Science categories.
This thesis focuses on the theoretical foundation of the Standard Model valid up to the Planck scale, based on the current experimental facts from the Large Hadron Collider. The thesis consists of two themes: (1) to open up a new window of the Higgs inflation scenario, and (2) to explore a new solution to the naturalness problem in particle physics. In the first area, on the Higgs inflation scenario, the author successfully improves a large value problem on a coupling constant relevant to the Higgs mass in the Standard Model, in which the coupling value of the order of 105 predicted in a conventional scenario is reduced to the order of 10. This result makes the Higgs inflation more attractive because the small value of coupling is natural in the context of ultraviolet completion such as string theory. In the second area, the author provides a new answer to the naturalness problem, of why the cosmological constant and the Higgs mass are extremely small compared with the Planck scale. Based on the baby universe theory originally proposed by Coleman, the smallness of those quantities is successfully explained without introducing any additional new particles relevant at the TeV energy scale.

This thesis contains new research in both experimental and theoretical particle physics, making important contributions in each. Two analyses of collision data from the ATLAS experiment at the LHC are presented, as well as two phenomenological studies of heavy coloured resonances that could be produced at the LHC. The first data analysis was the measurement of top quark-antiquark production with a veto on additional jet activity. As the first detector-corrected measurement of jet activity in top-antitop events it played an important role in constraining the theoretical modelling, and ultimately reduced these uncertainties for ATLAS's other top-quark measurements by a factor of two. The second data analysis was the measurement of Z+2jet production and the observation of the electroweak vector boson fusion (VBF) component. As the first observation of VBF at a hadron collider, this measurement demonstrated new techniques to reliably extract VBF processes and paved the way for future VBF Higgs measurements. The first phenomenological study developed a new technique for identifying the colour of heavy resonances produced in proton-proton collisions. As a by-product of this study an unexpected and previously unnoticed correlation was discovered between the probability of correctly identifying a high-energy top and the colour structure of the event it was produced in. The second phenomenological study explored this relationship in more detail, and could have important consequences for the identification of new particles that decay to top quarks.

The mass of the top quark is measured using a sample of $t\bar{t}$ candidate events with at least six jets in the final state. The sample is selected from data collected with the CMS detector in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV in 2011 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.54 inverse femtobarns. The mass is reconstructed for each event employing a kinematic fit of the jets to a $t\bar{t}$ hypothesis. The top-quark mass is measured to be 173.49 $\pm$ 0.69 (stat.) $\pm$ 1.21 (syst.) GeV. A combination with previously published measurements in other decay modes by CMS yields a mass of 173.54 $\pm$ 0.33 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.96 (syst.) GeV.

Cities and Their Vital Systems asks basic questions about the longevity, utility, and nature of urban infrastructures; analyzes how they grow, interact, and change; and asks how, when, and at what cost they should be replaced. Among the topics discussed are problems arising from increasing air travel and airport congestion; the adequacy of water supplies and waste treatment; the impact of new technologies on construction; urban real estate values; and the field of "telematics," the combination of computers and telecommunications that makes money machines and national newspapers possible.

Measurement Of The Jet Mass In Highly Boosted T Tbar Events From Pp Collisions At Sqrt S written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with categories.
The first measurement of the jet mass m[jet] of top quark jets produced in t t-bar events from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV is reported for the jet with the largest transverse momentum pt in highly boosted hadronic top quark decays. The data sample, collected with the CMS detector, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. The measurement is performed in the lepton+jets channel in which the products of the semileptonic decay t to bW with W to l nu where l is an electron or muon, are used to select t t-bar events with large Lorentz boosts. The products of the fully hadronic decay t to bW with W to q q'-bar are reconstructed using a single Cambridge-Aachen jet with distance parameter R=1.2, and pt>400 GeV. The t t-bar cross section as a function of m[jet] is unfolded at the particle level and is used to test the modelling of highly boosted top quark production. The peak position of the m[jet] distribution is sensitive to the top quark mass m[t], and the data are used to extract a value of m[t] to assess this sensitivity.
