Measurements from Maps: Principles and Methods of Cartometry describes the accuracy of a variety of measurement techniques that may be used in many fields of science, administration and travel. This book is composed of 23 chapters, and begins with a description of the nature and applications of cartometry. The succeeding chapters deal with methods of measuring distance and area, sources of measurement errors and their analysis, cartometric sampling, the concept of accurate map, and the magnitude of cartometric deformations. These topics are followed by discussions of aerial photograph measurements and the precision of different methods, as well as their suitability for different kind of work. This book also looks into the probabilistic methods of distance measurement, and the geometrical, planimetric, and point-counting methods of area measurement. The last chapters consider the application of digital computer in cartometry and the measurement on Mercator's projection.

Synthetic Instruments Concepts And Applications written by Chris Nadovich and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-09-09 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The way electronic instruments are built is changing in a deeply fundamental way. It is making an evolutionary leap to a new method of design that is being called synthetic instruments. This new method promises to be the most significant advance in electronic test and instrumentation since the introduction of automated test equipment (ATE). The switch to synthetic instruments is beginning now, and it will profoundly affect all test and measurement equipment that will be developed in the future. Synthetic instruments are like ordinary instruments in that they are specific to a particular measurement or test. They might be a voltmeter that measures voltage, or a spectrum analyzer that measures spectra. The key, defining difference is this: synthetic instruments are implemented purely in software that runs on general purpose, non-specific measurement hardware with a high speed A/D and D/A at its core. In a synthetic instrument, the software is specific; the hardware is generic. Therefore, the "personality" of a synthetic instrument can be changed in an instant. A voltmeter may be a spectrum analyzer a few seconds later, and then become a power meter, or network analyzer, or oscilloscope. Totally different instruments are implemented on the same hardware and can be switched back and forth in the blink of an eye. This book explains the basics of synthetic instrumentation for the many people that will need to quickly learn about this revolutionary way to design test equipment. This book attempts to demystify the topic, cutting through, commercial hype, and obscure, vague jargon, to get to the heart of the technique. It reveals the important basic underlying concepts, showing people how the synthetic instrument design approach, properly executed, is so effective in creating nstrumentation that out performs traditional approaches to T&M and ATE being used today. - provides an overview and complete introduction to this revolutionary new technology - enables equipment designers and manufacturers to produce vastly more functional and flexible instrumentation; it's not your father's multimeter!

Smartphone Based Indoor Map Construction written by Ruipeng Gao and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-27 with Computers categories.

This book focuses on ubiquitous indoor localization services, specifically addressing the issue of floor plans. It combines computer vision algorithms and mobile techniques to reconstruct complete and accurate floor plans to provide better location-based services for both humans and vehicles via commodity smartphones in indoor environments (e.g., a multi-layer shopping mall with underground parking structures). After a comprehensive review of scene reconstruction methods, it offers accurate geometric information for each landmark from images and acoustics, and derives the spatial relationships of the landmarks and rough sketches of accessible areas with inertial and WiFi data to reduce computing overheads. It then presents the authors’ recent findings in detail, including the optimization and probabilistic formulations for more solid foundations and better robustness to combat errors, several new approaches to promote the current sporadic availability of indoor location-based services, and a holistic solution for floor plan reconstruction, indoor localization, tracking, and navigation. The novel approaches presented are designed for different types of indoor environments (e.g., shopping malls, office buildings and labs) and different users. A valuable resource for researchers and those in start-ups working in the field, it also provides supplementary material for students with mobile computing and networking backgrounds.
