Most of the diseases of modern mankind involve either acute or chronic inflammation. Measuring Immunity integrates the current information available on biomarkers and surrogate assays into a single handbook. It highlights the principles behind various applications, gives a brief summary on how they are conducted and provides detailed and critical analyses of murine models of immunity, clinical trials, and tests to predict utility and benefit. Measuring Immunity is indispensable for scientists and clinicians interested in the clinical applications of modern immunobiology.* Defines which assays of immune function are helpful in the assessment of clinical disorders involving inflammation and immunity* Assesses the dynamics of cellular and soluble factors in the peripheral blood using modern techniques * Includes basic science foundations as well as the approaches currently applied

Military Strategies For Sustainment Of Nutrition And Immune Function In The Field written by Institute of Medicine and has been published by National Academies Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-05-13 with Medical categories.

Every aspect of immune function and host defense is dependent upon a proper supply and balance of nutrients. Severe malnutrition can cause significant alteration in immune response, but even subclinical deficits may be associated with an impaired immune response, and an increased risk of infection. Infectious diseases have accounted for more off-duty days during major wars than combat wounds or nonbattle injuries. Combined stressors may reduce the normal ability of soldiers to resist pathogens, increase their susceptibility to biological warfare agents, and reduce the effectiveness of vaccines intended to protect them. There is also a concern with the inappropriate use of dietary supplements. This book, one of a series, examines the impact of various types of stressors and the role of specific dietary nutrients in maintaining immune function of military personnel in the field. It reviews the impact of compromised nutrition status on immune function; the interaction of health, exercise, and stress (both physical and psychological) in immune function; and the role of nutritional supplements and newer biotechnology methods reported to enhance immune function. The first part of the book contains the committee's workshop summary and evaluation of ongoing research by Army scientists on immune status in special forces troops, responses to the Army's questions, conclusions, and recommendations. The rest of the book contains papers contributed by workshop speakers, grouped under such broad topics as an introduction to what is known about immune function, the assessment of immune function, the effect of nutrition, and the relation between the many and varied stresses encountered by military personnel and their effect on health.

Immunity Duration written by Winston Cellini and has been published by Publifye AS this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-19 with Medical categories.

Immunity Duration explores the critical topic of how long protection from vaccines or prior infections lasts, impacting public health and immunization strategies. It delves into the biological mechanisms behind immune waning, such as declining antibody levels and viral evolution, while also examining the scientific methods used to assess and predict immune duration. Understanding these aspects is vital for informed vaccination schedules and public health policies. The book begins with the basics of immunology, covering both innate and adaptive immunity, including the roles of B cells and T cells. It then progresses to specific examples of infectious diseases like measles, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2 to illustrate how immune responses vary. By synthesizing immunological mechanisms, research methodologies, and practical applications, Immunity Duration offers a comprehensive overview of the field, making it valuable for anyone from students to researchers interested in immunology, infectious diseases, and vaccine development.

Electromagnetic Compatibility In Railways written by Ade Ogunsola and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-14 with Technology & Engineering categories.

A railway is a complex distributed engineering system: the construction of a new railway or the modernisation of a existing one requires a deep understanding of the constitutive components and their interaction, inside the system itself and towards the outside world. The former covers the various subsystems (featuring a complex mix of high power sources, sensitive safety critical systems, intentional transmitters, etc.) and their interaction, including the specific functions and their relevance to safety. The latter represents all the additional possible external victims and sources of electromagnetic interaction. EMC thus starts from a comprehension of the emissions and immunity characteristics and the interactions between sources and victims, with a strong relationship to electromagnetics and to system modeling. On the other hand, the said functions are achieved and preserved and their relevance for safety is adequately handled, if the related requirements are well posed andmanaged throughout the process from the beginning. The link is represented by standards and their correct application, as a support to analysis, testing and demonstration.
