A concise textbook bridging quantum theory and spectroscopy! Designed as a practical text, Quantum Mechanical Foundations of Molecular Spectroscopy covers the quantum mechanical fundamentals of molecular spectroscopy from the view of a professional spectroscopist, rather than a theoretician. Written by a noted expert on the topic, the book puts the emphasis on the relationship between spectroscopy and quantum mechanics, and provides the background information and derivations of the subjects needed to understand spectroscopy including: stationary energy states, transitions between these states, selection rules, and symmetry. The phenomenal growth of all forms of spectroscopy over the past eight decades has contributed enormously to our understanding of molecular structure and properties. Today spectroscopy covers a broad field including the modern magnetic resonance techniques, non-linear, laser and fiber-based spectroscopy, surface and surface-enhanced spectroscopy, pico- and femtosecond time resolved spectroscopy, and many more. This up-to-date resource discusses several forms of spectroscopy that are used in many fields of science, such as fluorescence, surface spectroscopies, linear and non-linear Raman spectroscopy and spin spectroscopy. This important text: Contains the physics and mathematics needed to understand spectroscopy Explores spectroscopic methods the are widely used in chemistry, biophysics, biology, and materials science Offers a text written by an experienced lecturer and practitioner of spectroscopic methods Includes detailed explanations and worked examples Written for chemistry, biochemistry, material sciences, and physics students, Quantum Mechanical Foundations of Molecular Spectroscopy provides an accessible text for understanding molecular spectroscopy.

Complex Variable Function Solutions In The Mechanical Analysis Of Tunnels written by Aizhong Lu and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-03 with Science categories.
This book covers the mechanical problems of tunnels in traffic, hydraulic and mining engineering. By extending the complex variable method in mechanical analysis, it proposes accurate analytical solutions for tunnels. The solutions are further applied to the back analysis of tunnels, hole shape optimization, support design and estimation of tunnel stability. The considered rock characteristics involve elasticity, elastoplasticity, viscoelasticity and anisotropy, and various geometric conditions are included, such as circular/noncircular single/multiple tunnels with/without support at deep/shallow depths. Some original achievements are provided, including new mapping functions for complex regions, precise determination of the noncircular plastic zone around single/twin tunnels and related elastoplastic solutions and quantitative analysis of the interaction between rock and the support, which are new developments of theory and method in rock mechanics. The proposed analyticalsolutions are reliable tools to initially estimate the design parameters and achieve optimal design, providing guidance in the conceptual stage of the design process. They can clearly reveal the influences of parameters in functional form and provide a benchmark against which the overall correctness of numerical analyses can be assessed. This book summarizes the author's research achievements over more than 20 years. It is a valuable reference for professionals working in geotechnical engineering.

This book comprises the proceedings of the Second International School on Mechanical Spectroscopy; presented here as invited lectures (Part I) and contributed papers (Part II). After having originated merely as a technique for the study of internal friction, mechanical spectroscopy has developed strongly, during the past decade, into a tool which is now indispensable for making advances in the creation of new materials. This book will therefore provide an excellent reference source for every researcher working in the field. Part I of the volume discusses the concept of mechanical spectroscopy in terms of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem and explains its role with regard to other spectroscopic techniques. Exhaustive reviews cover mechanical relaxation in metallic glasses, relaxation phenomena caused by interstitial solutes in metals, as well as the strain-induced interaction of dissolved atoms and mechanical relaxations in solid solutions. Other reviews are devoted to the advanced interactive computer simulation of dislocation phenomena, dislocation-induced mechanical losses, grain boundary phenomena, and precise analysis of the logarithmic decrement. Part II deals with more specific topics such as the mechanical spectroscopy of selected materials (metallic foams, shape memory alloys, oxide ion-conductors, PZT-type piezoceramics, ceramics, steel sheets, oil films), phase transitions, mechanical spectrometers, and applications of the wavelet transform.
