Mechanics and Physics of Porous Solids addresses the mechanics and physics of deformable porous materials whose porous space is filled by one or several fluid mixtures interacting with the solid matrix. Coussy uses the language of thermodynamics to frame the discussion of this topic and bridge the gap between physicists and engineers, and organises the material in such a way that individual phases are explored, followed by coupled problems of increasing complexity. This structure allows the reader to build a solid understanding of the physical processes occurring in the fluids and then porous solids. Mechanics and Physics of Porous Solids offers a critical reference on the physics of multiphase porous materials - key reading for engineers and researchers in structural and material engineering, concrete, wood and materials science, rock and soil mechanics, mining and oil prospecting, biomechanics.

Porous media exist in different modern materials. It presents great surface areas with small pore size distribution. These types of materials with controllable and adjustable pore diameters are given considerable attention due to their suitable properties and applications in several fields. Porous materials have many applications in our daily life. We use different types of porous materials to clean our drinking water, for instance. This new research-oriented volume focuses on exploring the wide range of porous materials. In this new volume, original contributions from international authors along with case studies on the synthesis, design, characterization, and applications of different types of porous materials and solids are presented in detail. The book covers different types of porous materials in the broad sense by considering experimental and theoretical aspects of materials science related to porous materials and solids. The book aims to help approach characterizing a particular types of materials for more in-depth analysis. This book is divided into three parts to determine the best techniques for solving particular porous materials problems, and in each part, the fabrication and characterization of porous materials are explored with applications, describing new methodologies to gain the required information along with limitations of various methods. To make this new title a practical reference book for research students and for engineers and scientists of different disciplines working with porous materials and solids, the editors have selected a very comprehensive range of case studies as well, designed to cover the basic concepts of porosity. These case studies also describe different types of pores and surfaces for readers.

Salt Crystallization In Porous Media written by Hannelore Derluyn and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-08-15 with Science categories.
The crystallization of one or multiple salts in porous media (rocks, soils, building materials, etc.) is a subject of major interest in connection with numerous issues such as soil salinization, evaporation, CO2 injection into saline aquifers, the durability of building materials and the preservation of our cultural heritage. Salt Crystallization in Porous Media provides an interdisciplinary review of the key scientific knowledge required to understand this field of research, and illustrates the issues involved through a series of concrete examples. This book has been written for students completing their Master’s level degree or higher in the field, as well as researchers and engineers interested in this research. It may also be of interest to a wider readership, as certain sections can be used to illustrate basic concepts, reaching beyond the subject of salt crystallization itself.

Potential Method In Mathematical Theories Of Multi Porosity Media written by Merab Svanadze and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-01 with Mathematics categories.
This monograph explores the application of the potential method to three-dimensional problems of the mathematical theories of elasticity and thermoelasticity for multi-porosity materials. These models offer several new possibilities for the study of important problems in engineering and mechanics involving multi-porosity materials, including geological materials (e.g., oil, gas, and geothermal reservoirs); manufactured porous materials (e.g., ceramics and pressed powders); and biomaterials (e.g., bone and the human brain). Proceeding from basic to more advanced material, the first part of the book begins with fundamental solutions in elasticity, followed by Galerkin-type solutions and Green’s formulae in elasticity and problems of steady vibrations, quasi-static, and pseudo-oscillations for multi-porosity materials. The next part follows a similar format for thermoelasticity, concluding with a chapter on problems of heat conduction for rigid bodies. The final chapter then presents a number of open research problems to which the results presented here can be applied. All results discussed by the author have not been published previously and offer new insights into these models. Potential Method in Mathematical Theories of Multi-Porosity Media will be a valuable resource for applied mathematicians, mechanical, civil, and aerospace engineers, and researchers studying continuum mechanics. Readers should be knowledgeable in classical theories of elasticity and thermoelasticity.

Theory Of Porous Media written by Reint de Boer and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.
Porous media theories play an important role in many branches of engineering, including material science, the petroleum industry, chemical engineering, and soil mechanics, as well as biomechanics. This book offers a consistent treatment of the material-independent fundamental equations of the theory of porous media, formulates constitutive equations for frictional materials in the elastic and plastic range, and traces the historical development of porous media theory. Thus, for the first time, a unique treatment of fluid-saturated porous solids is presented. The corresponding theory is explained by its historical progression, and its current state is thoroughly described.

Continuum Mechanics Through The Ages From The Renaissance To The Twentieth Century written by Gérard A. Maugin and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-19 with Science categories.
Mixing scientific, historic and socio-economic vision, this unique book complements two previously published volumes on the history of continuum mechanics from this distinguished author. In this volume, Gérard A. Maugin looks at the period from the renaissance to the twentieth century and he includes an appraisal of the ever enduring competition between molecular and continuum modelling views. Chapters trace early works in hydraulics and fluid mechanics not covered in the other volumes and the author investigates experimental approaches, essentially before the introduction of a true concept of stress tensor. The treatment of such topics as the viscoelasticity of solids and plasticity, fracture theory, and the role of geometry as a cornerstone of the field, are all explored. Readers will find a kind of socio-historical appraisal of the seminal contributions by our direct masters in the second half of the twentieth century. The analysis of the teaching and research texts by Duhem, Poincaré and Hilbert on continuum mechanics is key: these provide the most valuable documentary basis on which a revival of continuum mechanics and its formalization were offered in the late twentieth century. Altogether, the three volumes offer a generous conspectus of the developments of continuum mechanics between the sixteenth century and the dawn of the twenty-first century. Mechanical engineers, applied mathematicians and physicists alike will all be interested in this work which appeals to all curious scientists for whom continuum mechanics as a vividly evolving science still has its own mysteries.

Computational Methods for Fracture in Porous Media: Isogeometric and Extended Finite Element Methods provides a self-contained presentation of new modeling techniques for simulating crack propagation in fluid-saturated porous materials. This book reviews the basic equations that govern fluid-saturated porous media. A multi-scale approach to modeling fluid transport in joins, cracks, and faults is described in such a way that the resulting formulation allows for a sub-grid representation of the crack and fluid flow in the crack. Interface elements are also analyzed with their extension to the hydromechanical case. The flexibility of Extended Finite Element Method for non-stationary cracks is also explored and their formulation for fracture in porous media described. This book introduces Isogeometric finite element methods and its basic features and properties. The rapidly evolving phase-field approach to fracture is also discussed. The applications of this book's content cover various fields of engineering, making it a valuable resource for researchers in soil, rock and biomechanics. - Teaches both new and upcoming computational techniques for simulating fracture in (partially) fluid-saturated porous media - Helps readers learn how to couple modern computational methods with non-linear fracture mechanics and flow in porous media - Presents tactics on how to simulate fracture propagation in hydraulic fracturing
