This conference book contains papers presented at the 8th GACM Colloquium on Computational Mechanics for Young Scientists from Academia and Industry. The conference was held from August 28th – 30th, 2019 in Kassel, hosted by the Institute of Mechanics and Dynamics of the department for civil and environmental engineering and by the chair of Engineering Mechanics / Continuum Mechanics of the department for mechanical engineering of the University of Kassel. The aim of the conference is, to bring together young scientits who are engaged in academic and industrial research on Computational Mechanics and Computer Methods in Applied Sciences. It provides a plattform to present and discuss recent results from research efforts and industrial applications. In more than 150 presentations, given by young scientists, current scientific developments and advances in engineering practice in this field are presented and discussed. The contributions of the young researchers are supplemented by a poster session and plenary talks from four senior scientists from academia and industry as well as from the GACM Best PhD Award winners 2017 and 2018.

Dynamics Of Discrete And Continuum Structures And Media written by Holm Altenbach and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-19 with Science categories.
This volume is dedicated to the sixtieth birthday of Prof. Alexey Porubov and contains a selection of scientific papers prepared by papers by his friends and colleagues from different countries. It is devoted to actual research in dynamics considering discrete and continuum models of continuum and structures. It includes microstructures modeling the behavior of materials and offers new theoretical approaches in dynamics with applications. There has been rapid development in the field of continuum mechanics in recent years. This has led to new theoretical concepts, e.g., better inclusion of the microstructure in the models describing material behavior. At the same time, there are also more applications for the theories in engineering practice. The book gives a new insight into the current developments.

50 Years Of Aimeta written by Giuseppe Rega and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-04 with Technology & Engineering categories.
The book retraces the history of the Italian Association of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (AIMETA) since its establishment in 1965. AIMETA is the official Italian association of mechanics adhering to IUTAM (International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics), which organizes and coordinates a meaningful number of research activities, the most important of which are the biennial National Congress and the internationally renowned journal “Meccanica”, published by Springer. Besides collecting and organizing all related important data and information, as far as possible, by distinguishing among the five scientific areas – general mechanics, solids, structures, fluids, machines – encompassed by AIMETA, the history of the association is assumed as a proper perspective to overview the evolution of theoretical and applied mechanics in Italy over about the last fifty years. This is accomplished in the first part of the book. with also a specific focus on the mechanics of solids and structures, where the biographies of a meaningful number of recognized Italian scholars of mechanics in all areas are also provided, along with testimonials and memories by a few senior people meaningfully involved with AIMETA and Italian mechanics. The second part gives an account, although unavoidably incomplete, of recent developments of mechanical sciences in Italy, as reflected also in the activities of AIMETA and with reference to the international context. Contributions by a number of invited senior scholars, still very active, consist of overviews on some scientific themes in the various areas, summaries of achievements of research groups, expressions of research viewpoints, prospects for future developments.

An area at the intersection of solid mechanics, materials science, and stochastic mathematics, mechanics of materials often necessitates a stochastic approach to grasp the effects of spatial randomness. Using this approach, Microstructural Randomness and Scaling in Mechanics of Materials explores numerous stochastic models and methods used in the m

The Theory Of Pseudo Rigid Bodies written by Harley Cohen and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-07 with Science categories.
This monograph concerns the development, analysis, and application of the theory of pseudo-rigid bodies. It collects together our work on that subject over the last five years. While some results have appeared else where, much of the work is new. Our objective in writing this mono graph has been to present a new theory of the deformation of bodies, one that has not only a firm theoretical basis, but also the simplicity to serve as an effective tool in practical problems. Consequently, the main body of the treatise is a multifaceted development of the theory, from foundations to explicit solutions to linearizations to methods of approximation. The fact that this variety of aspects, each examined in considerable detail, can be collected together in a single, unified treat ment gives this theory an elegance that we feel sets it apart from many others. While our goal has always been to give a complete treatment of the theory as it now stands, the work here is not meant to be definitive. Theories are not entities that appear suddenly one day and thereafter stand as given. Rather, they must mature and grow with time and experience. Our development is more correctly a beginning, tempting others to explore, appraise, and modify its features so as to produce something better.

Lattice Dynamical Foundations Of Continuum Theories Elasticity Piezoelectricity Viscoelasticity Plasticity written by Attila Askar and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1986-07-01 with categories.
This book presents a discussion of lattice dynamics for perfect and imperfect lattices and their relation to continuum theories of elasticity, piezoelectricity, viscoelasticity and plasticity. Some of the material is rather classical and close in spirit to solid state physics. A major aim here is to present a coherent theory for the four basic behavior types in the style of continuum mechanics. In each case, emphasis is on an explicit display of the physical mechanisms involved rather than general formalisms. The material is presented in terms of an atomistic picture for the discrete system. The basic ideas are believed to be relevant also at an intermediate scale in the continuum description of media with structure such as granular materials and composites.

This book is the first of 2 special volumes dedicated to the memory of Gérard Maugin. Including 40 papers that reflect his vast field of scientific activity, the contributions discuss non-standard methods (generalized model) to demonstrate the wide range of subjects that were covered by this exceptional scientific leader. The topics range from micromechanical basics to engineering applications, focusing on new models and applications of well-known models to new problems. They include micro–macro aspects, computational endeavors, options for identifying constitutive equations, and old problems with incorrect or non-satisfying solutions based on the classical continua assumptions.
