Media And Maltese Society written by Carmen Sammut and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Political Science categories.

This seminal work is the first comprehensive analysis of the media landscape in the Mediterranean island of Malta. It examines the media owned by political parties, trade unions, and the church and how they successfully compete for audiences with the public and private sectors. Carmen Sammut explores institutional efforts to influence the information flow by means of field observations and in-depth interviews in newsrooms. These influences are further examined in an analysis of news content and discourse during the referendum campaign for European Union membership. In a field where literature often overlooks small states, Media and Maltese Society takes advantage of the small context to examine the communication circuit holistically, observing traits that British and American journalism lost with the growth of media capitalism.

Taking a qualitative approach based on original case studies, this book offers a detailed overview of the contemporary media system in Malta. Three Maltese news organisations are examined to understand the editorial routines, ownership and management structures, and social and cultural factors that affect the day-to-day business of creating news. In-depth interviews with key stakeholders of each organisation are conducted alongside qualitative textual analysis of the content they publish. Contrary to previous research, the work finds that advocacy continues to dominate Maltese journalism, indicating that the country has retained similarities to other media systems within its geographic region. While recognising that the gold standard in journalism is judged to be objectivity and balance, a case is made for a responsible, measured form of advocacy journalism to extend media diversity and contribute to a high level of national political engagement. Presenting an informed case for the need to pay closer attention to small states, especially at a time when many countries are seen to be becoming increasingly socially and politically divided, The Construction of News in a Polarised State is an insightful text for scholars and academics in the fields of media and communication studies, political science, and sociology.

This encyclopedia provides a thorough overview of media within social and cultural contexts, exploring the development of the mediated communication industry, mediated communication regulations, and societal interactions and effects. This reference work will look at issues such as free expression and government regulation of media; how people choose what media to watch, listen to, and read; and how the influence of those who control media organizations may be changing as new media empower previously unheard voices. The role of media in society will be explored from international, multidisciplinary perspectives via approximately 700 articles drawing on research from communication and media studies, sociology, anthropology, social psychology, politics, and business.

Pilates Of The Mediterranean written by Joseph Borg and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-20 with Christianity categories.

The book is an analysis of contemporary society with particular emphasis on Maltese society. The book presents a collection of 73 short essays and proposes a vision for local politics based on the concept of Malta as our common home. It discusses the rise of cynicism, post-truth politics and, most of all, the tsunami of corruption under which public administration is floundering. Fr Borg expounds on the politically and socially explosive potential of the Christian concept of God and of the most important celebrations in Christianity, mainly Christmas, Lent and Easter. For him the Church is an outward-looking and all-inclusive community that should be compared more to a rainbow than a club. His love for the Church is shown in many commentaries but, at the same time, he does not shy away from criticizing the institution where he feels such criticism is due.

The series Religion and Society (RS) contributes to the exploration of religions as social systems - both in Western and non-Western societies; in particular, it examines religions in their differentiation from, and intersection with, other cultural systems, such as art, economy, law and politics. Due attention is given to paradigmatic case or comparative studies that exhibit a clear theoretical orientation with the empirical and historical data of religion and such aspects of religion as ritual, the religious imagination, constructions of tradition, iconography, or media. In addition, the formation of religious communities, their construction of identity, and their relation to society and the wider public are key issues of this series.

The Media Systems In Europe written by Stylianos Papathanassopoulos and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-17 with Political Science categories.

This open access book traces the evolution of the European media landscape in the last 30 years, from 1990 to 2020. It is based on the theoretical classical hypotheses of regional media systems provided by Hallin and Mancini and at the same time puts them to test. The book further defines the proportions between geocultural patterns – national, regional, European, and global – to outline evolutionary trends in media landscapes. It analyzes to which degree European media have become more European, in the historical course of administrative unification and breaks the results down into concrete indexes and indicators. The book discusses the media systems of the member states of the European Union through a regional perspective, identifying similarities, differences, as well as their convergence in the digital age. It sheds light on the evolution of media systems in Europe, introduces existing relevant theoretical perspectives, and offers an overview of the new developments in European media. The book will appeal to students, researchers, and scholars of political science, communication, media, cultural, and policy studies, as well as practitioners and professionals interested in a better understanding of the European media landscape's evolution.
