Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Communications - Journalism, Journalism Professions, language: English, abstract: The relation between media and society is very interesting and complex in its nature. As society is dynamic and heterogeneous, and as well media technology is non sleeping and pluralistic, it needs always research to understand the relationship between the two. Thus, no theory solely can describe the relation between media and society. The available evidences shows the connection between media and society are contextual across time and place and heterogeneous across societies and media type. The following six perspectives summarizes the nexus between media and society. Firstly, Media created the notion of mass society; secondly, as critical school thought based on Marxist view media are capitalist controlled for suppressing the poor. Thirdly, media are functioning or dysfunction institution of society. Fourthly, media is a social conscience which constructs reality. Fifthly, media technology effects change in society. Lastly, media transformed the human history to the new stage called Information society. In a true pluralist environment media has power to serve as a public sphere to control powerful groups, the problem is media could be dominated by other powerful groups and may serve as suppression tool. Media fail to represent all cultures, cultural groups and individuals from the processes and the contents of media production, if it is dominated by the oppressors. This marginalization is continuing in the new media (virtual world) too. Thus, the media and society relations always needs research and critical understanding as their power functions and dysfunctions societies across time and geography, as a societal phenomenon are very dynamic.

Media Representation And The Global Imagination written by Shani Orgad and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-03 with Social Science categories.

This book is a clear, systematic, original and lively account of how media representations shape the way we see our and others’ lives in a global age. It provides in-depth analysis of a range of international media representations of disaster, war, conflict, migration and celebration. The book explores how images, stories and voices, on television, the Internet, and in advertisements and newspapers, invite us to relocate to distant contexts, and to relate to people who are remote from our daily lives, by developing ‘mediated intimacy’ and focusing on the self. It also explores how these representations shape our self-narratives. Orgad examines five sites of media representation – the other, the nation, possible lives, the world and the self. She argues that representations can and should contribute to fostering more ambivalence and complexity in how we think and feel about the world, our place in it and our relation to far-away others. Media Representations and the Global Imagination will be of particular interest to students and scholars of media and cultural studies, as well as sociology, politics, international relations, development studies and migration studies.

Media And Politics written by Bettina Mottura and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-18 with Social Science categories.

Media and politics have always been mutually influential. The media plays an important political role of its own in promoting and discussing policies, as well as conveying representations of power and ideology. On the other hand, media outlets are themselves subject to political forces that have an impact on their editorial line. This mutual influence comes to light not only in journalistic practices, but also in how news is constructed and conveyed. This volume explores the relations between politics and various types of media as expressed in different areas of the world, namely Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East. Such a complex landscape calls for a multiplicity of analytical tools and cannot ignore specific socio-political, geographic, linguistic, and cultural contexts which may be overlooked when approached from a global perspective. In this volume, a combination of senior scholars and young experts from a wide range of disciplines, such as discourse analysis, international relations, and cultural studies, come together in a conversation which recognizes the media as a global phenomenon without neglecting its local specificities.

New Media And Politics written by Barrie Axford and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-12-05 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

`The book makes a successful attempt to map the potentially transformative effects of new media on various aspects of political insitiutions and culture, both at a theorectical and empirical level. Barrie Axford′s discussion of the changing nature of political practice and technologies of political communication in relation to wider discourse of "crisis" is insightful and well argued....This is a genuinely thought provoking and generally very well written book. The book also works well by providing a potential basis for theoretically informed future research in the field of political communication′ - Political Theory Exploring the theme of the putative transformation of political modernity under the impact of `new′ media, this book adopts a questioning approach to the ways in which cultural and technological factors are affecting the temper of political life, and reflects the variety of normative thinking about and empirical research on the changing character of politics in mediatized cultures. New Media and Politics examines: the extent to which commercial populism now dominates electoral and other political discourses; the ways in which the functions of leadership, government and political parties are modified by different forms of both old and new media; the democratic or undemocratic import of such changes; and the ways in which the dominant territorial paradigm of politics is challenged by the space and time devouring capacities of electronic media.
