"Like the ancient wisdom gatherers, James Weeks has walked from village to village, island to island, country to country, collecting dispersed pieces of knowledge. Along the way he has acquired an intricate trove of family memories, blessed encounters, and lessons learned. He is the storyteller that can engage your soul." Monique Clendinen Watson "To fully understand the impact of generational wealth, we need only look at one telling statistic. Roughly one-third of Forbes 400 richest Americans inherited some or all their wealth. James Weeks addresses the life-altering impact of generational wealth in this important book. For African Americans, denied generational wealth by slavery, Jim Crowism, redlining, and institutionalized racism, this is a timely and critical issue." Melvin Claxton, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of Uncommon Valor: The Story of Race, Patriotism, and Glory in the Final Battles of the Civil War "Meditations Across the King's River beautifully interweaves African spiritual wisdom and guidance for living. Through James' various life experiences, the reader is taken on an adventure which captivates the heart and the imagination. It is filled with nourishing, cultural gems of knowledge, plus spiritual tips and advice. The healing and motivational energy from this inspiring piece is very empowering!" Verona Spence-Adofo Ancestral Voices Co-founder "From James' encounter with an amazing healer in Jamaica to the touching tribute to the great Ifa priest, Dr. Afolabi Epega, Meditations Across the King's River is a masterpiece that provides an intimate experience with African culture and spirituality that most of us have thought long gone. Many thanks to Baba James Weeks and his ancestors for this great work!" Chief Oluwo Obafemifayemi Founder of the Obafemifayemi Institute for the Divine and Universal Study of IFA (O.I.D.S.I.)

Documents may have been destroyed, the graves left unmarked, the records rewritten, but his idea dominated the minds and experiences of those who knew him best and who shared their recollections, so that he has joined that rare group of singular personalities who make friends centuries after they have passed from the world. Richard III was a king, with all that implies, and he has returned after five centuries trailing some of his mediaeval glory. He was also pious. This little book provides a brief biography, describes the form and feature of the time, its ceremony and its hope. It reviews briefly the history of deposed monarchs and concentrates also on the inward life which was the mainspring of action and recalls the lost faith we once all shared with King Richard. Some techniques for contemplation give the reader unfamiliar with such concepts a good start with simple methods, sentences for meditation, and set prayers.

The National Coordination Center of Provincial Meditation Institutes of Thailand was established with the commitment of Directors from 338 Meditation Centers (out of over 400) invited by the National Buddhism Organization to a conference at Wat Yannawa, Bangkok, April 23-25, B.E. 2551 (2008). There were fi ve objectives. Three were established at the conference and the last two were added later. 1. To support the Sangha Body’s Provincial Meditation Centers to administer Buddhist Education effectively, 2. To cooperate with Provincial Meditation Centers to teach meditation at the same high standard for all people at all levels, 3. To assist Provincial Meditation Centers with academic scholarship. 4. To cooperate with the Chiefs of the Sangha Regions and Directors of the Provincial Meditation Centers to raise academic training techniques to the same high standard. 5. To support the Sangha in stabilizing, protecting and developing Buddhism under the rules of the Discipline, the Law and the Sangha Rules. The committee members agreed to publish A Study Guide for Samatha-Vipassanā Meditation based on the Five Meditation Techniques, as a book. Those fi ve techniques are the Triple Gem Meditation (buddho), Mindfulness of Breathing (ānāpānasati), Rising-Falling (infl ating-contracting), Mind (nāma) and Body (rūpa), and Dhammakaya Meditation (sammā arahang). The purposes for this publication were for disseminating the Right Dhamma Practice to the directors and meditation masters of Meditation Centers across Thailand and Buddhists worldwide who study and practice the Right Practice of Lord Buddha, and, most importantly, for all meditators independently practicing any one of these based on one’s own temperament. The book has been translated by Phra Maha Natpakanan Gunanggaro, and edited by Phra Maha Wannapong Wannavanso, David Dale Holmes, Eunice E. Cerezo, Mr. Sakrapan Eamegdool, Mr. Watcharapol Daengsubha, and Ms. Jessica Dawn Ogden. Please address any questions or comments to www.dhammacenter.org. I would like to thank everyone for their strenuous efforts and to congratulate them on this successful contribution to the promulgation of the Dhamma. May these meritorious actions lead all to have prosperity of life and to achieve the Paths, Fruits and Nibbana. May Lord Buddha bless you all, as well as your meritorious work.

The Spirit Of Buddhist Meditation written by Sarah Shaw and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-11 with Religion categories.

Is it possible to capture the spirit of Buddhist meditation, which depends so much upon silence and unspoken wisdom? Can this spirit be found after two millennia? This wise and reassuring book reminds us that the Buddhist meditative tradition, geared to such concerns from its inception, has always been transmitted through texts. A great variety of early writings—poems, stories, extended practical guides, commentaries, and chants—were purposely designed to pass teachings on from one generation to the next. Sarah Shaw, a longtime practitioner and teacher of Buddhism, investigates a wide and varied range of ancient and later Buddhist writings on meditation. Many of these texts are barely known in the West but, as the author shows, they can be helpful, moving, and often very funny. She begins with early texts of the Pali canon—those that describe and involve the Buddha and his followers teaching meditations—and moves on to “commentaries,” with their copious range of practical tips, anecdotes, and accounts of early meditators. The author then considers other early texts that were inspirational as Buddhist traditions spread through India and on to China, Korea, Japan, and Tibet. Centuries after being written, early Buddhist texts have lost none of their relevance, this authoritative book shows. In a tradition characterized by flexibility and mobility, these writings offer wisdom unchanged by time.
