Dreissig Jahre lang (1952-1982) existierte in Zürich die Psychologische Lehr- und Beratungsstelle unter der Leitung von Friedrich Liebling. Mit Josef Rattner, später mit seinen Schüler/innen und Mitarbeiter/innen, beschritt er neue Wege in der Psychologie; deshalb nannten sie sich ab 1967 auch Zürcher Schule für Psychotherapie. Jede und jeder, unabhängig von finanziellen Möglichkeiten oder bildungsmässigem Hintergrund, konnte psychologische Beratung und Ausbildung erhalten, niemand wurde abgewiesen oder ausgeschlossen. Die psychologische Arbeit basierte auf den Prinzipien Freiheit, Gleichheit, Gewaltlosigkeit und gegenseitiger Hilfe. Bei Friedrich Lieblings Tod 1982 standen 3000 Menschen in regelmässiger Verbindung mit diesem Forschungs-, Lehr- und Beratungszentrum. Die Autorin schildert, wie sie die Zürcher Schule ab 1972 erlebte, sowie die Entwicklung nach dem Tod des Gründers. Was war passiert, dass es bereits nach einem Jahr zu Mitarbeitsverboten und Ausschlüssen kam? Wie konnte es geschehen, dass sich die psychologische Schule spaltete und Positionen vertreten wurden, die der früheren Intention entgegengesetzt waren? Zusammen mit Jutta Siegwart-Gensch, einer engen Mitarbeiterin Friedrich Lieblings, bemühte sich die Autorin, die Ursachen der Fehlentwicklung aufzudecken. Die Ergebnisse legt sie in diesem Buch vor.
