He became famous for his loyalty and was adored by scores of people who passed through the station every day. This is Hachiko’s story through the eyes of Kentaro, a young boy whose life is changed forever by his friendship with this very special dog. Hachiko (November 10, 1923 - March 8, 1935) was a Japanese Akita dog remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his owner Hidesaburō Ueno, for whom he continued to wait for over nine years following Ueno's death. When Hachiko was about six months old, he began walking the Professor to the train station every morning to see him off to work. When the Professor boarded the train, Hachiko left the station. Every day he returned at three o'clock to meet his master's train and accompany him home. This ritual went on for a year and a half until the day the Professor did not arrive home on the train. So he went to look for his master at the train station where he had accompanied him so many times before. Each day, Hachiko waited for Professor Ueno to return. And each day he didn't see his friend among the commuters at the station. Hachi became a great hero to the people of Japan. They admired his steadfastness, loyalty, and hope.
