Hachiko (November 10, 1923 - March 8, 1935) was a Japanese Akita dog remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his owner Hidesaburō Ueno, for whom he continued to wait for over nine years following Ueno's death. When Hachiko was about six months old, he began walking the Professor to the train station every morning to see him off to work. When the Professor boarded the train, Hachiko left the station. Every day he returned at three o'clock to meet his master's train and accompany him home. This ritual went on for a year and a half until the day the Professor did not arrive home on the train. So he went to look for his master at the train station where he had accompanied him so many times before. Each day, Hachiko waited for Professor Ueno to return.
