A degradação ambiental é oriunda de um processo de desenvolvimento desenfreado que não observou a finitude da matéria. Buscou-se, inicialmente, produzir bens para a sociedade de consumo, além das suas necessidades, emergindo, assim, um mercado consumidor que gera lucro em um mercado neoliberal.
