É inspirado na recente notoriedade do voguing, que o autor pontua a criação de cenas de dissenso como posicionamento político oportuno nas metrópoles pós-modernas. Neste contexto, voguers nos ensinam que o corpo, a memória e as cidades contêm a matéria-prima da alteridade, antagonizando convenções de gênero. Nesta obra, o autor percorre o campo da memória social, chama o corpo à cena investigativa, problematiza a espacialização das relações de poder no espaço urbano e, a partir disso, convida-nos a refletir sobre desafios hoje postos às multidões queer. -- No documentário "Paris is Burning", Willi Ninja chega a melhor definição de que se tem conhecimento sobre o que é voguing: "é uma forma segura de jogar shades", diz ele. E o que seria jogar shades (sombras) senão aguçar a potência de afecção de corpos empoderados? Podemos interpretar as shades de duas formas: primeiro, tratamos como adereço de maquiagem, que representa este desejo humano de compartilhar fantasias e usar o corpo como textualidade para comunicar subjetividades. Estas sombras podem ser tratadas como o elemento estético que integra as sociabilidades pós-modernas e apazigua a vontade de autocomposição neste jogo ambíguo de imitação/alteridade. Segundo, o cruzamento dos termos shade e shadow nos serve de analogia para entender o voguing como sombra de corpos precários que ironizam os padrões estéticos hegemônicos. Nesta sociedade pós-moderna, cuja espetacularização de corpos-objeto reforça ideais de normalidade, voguers dispõem poses de corpos desviantes sob os holofotes e, assim, notabilizam a gestualidade como sombra de subjetividades represadas. Por fim, chama-nos atenção o fato de que, ao performar às sombras de referenciais performativos preexistentes, voguers desestabilizam as categorizações binárias de gênero arrastadas pelo racionalismo excludente. De fato, os voguers até revisitam as sombras normativas, mas as rasuram com gradações de sombreamento, como um chiste perspicaz, uma fagulha que empodera corpos dançantes.

Starting from differences between reenactment and the more established practice of historical reconstruction, leading practitioners and theorists ask how the notion of preservation and representation associated with reconstruction is transformed by reenactment into historical experience and affective relation to the past in the present. In other terms: How does dance convey historical meaning through sensuous form? Danced reenactment poses the problem of history and historicity in relation to the troubled temporality inherent to dance itself. Ephemerality as the central trope of dance is hence displaced in favor of dance as a reiterative practice that confounds categories of chronological time and opens up a theoretical space of history that is often invisibilized by ideologies of immediacy traditionally attributed to dancing.

The year 2007 marked the bicentenary of the Act abolishing British participation in the slave trade. Representing Enslavement and Abolition on Museums- which uniquely draws together contributions from academic commentators, museum professionals, community activists and artists who had an involvement with the bicentenary - reflects on the complexity and difficulty of museums' experiences in presenting and interpreting the histories of slavery and abolition, and places these experiences in the broader context of debates over the bicentenary's significance and the lessons to be learnt from it.
