By most measures, Daniel Olmes is an ordinary guy—but he’s learned how to live an extraordinary life. In Memoirs of an Ordinary Guy, Daniel asserts that we are all capable of being extraordinary and redefines what it means to be just another ordinary person. He is living proof that extraordinary is there for all of us. It doesn’t mean rich or famous. It doesn’t mean better. To Daniel, “extraordinary” means grateful, honest, happy, loving, fearless, and faithful. Doing extraordinary things is not what makes us extraordinary. Being extraordinary is having an extraordinary perspective on our lives and the things that happen to us. Daniel’s narrative will inspire everyone to view their lives differently, remind us of the stories that we all share, and spark a renewed curiosity about a world that’s anything but ordinary.

Memoirs of an Ordinary Man Is a collection of humourous, almost true, short stories. Based on the life local author Aaron Chynn, this local read is set to give us all a giggle. Although there are some things in life we really shouldn't laugh at, sometimes, we just can't help it. The book uses some classic Yorkshire humour to get the point across, and of course, in typical Yorkshire fashion, when things start to go awry in some of these comedy tales, the language can get a little colourful! A portion from every book sold is to go to the trust fund of Dannielle Skillbeck, who lost both legs to Meningitis when she was young. Danni appears in the last chapter when, as a bridesmaid, her prosthetic leg fell off outside the church, and unceremoniously bounced onto the pavement. The laugh was on the assembled crowd whose reaction was unique. -Otley Life Lynette Hodge Brilliant read every home should have a copy; really brightens your day, well done Aaron Chinn , roll on the next one. Steve Norfolk rated it: Read in October, 2009 Aaron reminds me of myself in a lot of ways, some of his antics, the bouncing wheel following him down the road, his pal Tim and the rubber Dinghy. I couldn't stop laughing and smiling. As I read it with an amused look on my face one evening my wife kept looking across bemused, then when she read it herself she realised why! Keith Mitchell Urquhart For anyone who has not read this book yet, it is a fun read. A great toilet book. Just enough of a read for each movement. "Finished the book the day after you left, read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down!!!" Trish Mitchell (Ex Pat living in Torrevieja Spain)

NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • The raw, candid, unvarnished memoir of an American icon. The greatest movie star of the past 75 years covers everything: his traumatic childhood, his career, his drinking, his thoughts on Marlon Brando, James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor, John Huston, his greatest roles, acting, his intimate life with Joanne Woodward, his innermost fears and passions and joys. With thoughts/comments throughout from Joanne Woodward, George Roy Hill, Tom Cruise, Elia Kazan and many others. A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: TIME and Vanity Fair "Newman at his best…with his self-aware persona, storied marriage and generous charitable activities…this rich book somehow imbues his characters’ pain and joy with fresh technicolor." —The Wall Street Journal In 1986, Paul Newman and his closest friend, screenwriter Stewart Stern, began an extraordinary project. Stuart was to compile an oral history, to have Newman’s family and friends and those who worked closely with him, talk about the actor’s life. And then Newman would work with Stewart and give his side of the story. The only stipulation was that anyone who spoke on the record had to be completely honest. That same stipulation applied to Newman himself. The project lasted five years. The result is an extraordinary memoir, culled from thousands of pages of transcripts. The book is insightful, revealing, surprising. Newman’s voice is powerful, sometimes funny, sometimes painful, always meeting that high standard of searing honesty. The additional voices—from childhood friends and Navy buddies, from family members and film and theater collaborators such as Tom Cruise, George Roy Hill, Martin Ritt, and John Huston—that run throughout add richness and color and context to the story Newman is telling. Newman’s often traumatic childhood is brilliantly detailed. He talks about his teenage insecurities, his early failures with women, his rise to stardom, his early rivals (Marlon Brando and James Dean), his first marriage, his drinking, his philanthropy, the death of his son Scott, his strong desire for his daughters to know and understand the truth about their father. Perhaps the most moving material in the book centers around his relationship with Joanne Woodward—their love for each other, his dependence on her, the way she shaped him intellectually, emotionally and sexually. The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man is revelatory and introspective, personal and analytical, loving and tender in some places, always complex and profound.

Seldom does one come across a small town such as Escalante, Utah, with so many gifted storytellers of tall tales and all shades inbetween. From the time the first Mormon settlers came trudging into Potato Valley, later to be called Escalante after the Escalante River that flows through the valley, these sturdy pioneers, all of them poorer than Job s turkey, seemed to thrive on hard work and humor. The Lord Himself must have chuckled when Bishop Andrew Schow, faithful old Dane that he was, prayed for rain. "Heavenly Father," he intoned for a group of his farmer friends, "Thou knowest how bone dry it s been here this entire summer, so please send us some rain, a nice gentle rain and not one of them old gully washers!" The good Lord, tis said, was so delighted with this heartfelt prayer that He sent that nice gentle rain the very next afternoon. Or take the time that drinking buddies Hanley Bailey and Lamon Griffin got into a squabble over politics one night. Lamon s patience at an end, he hauled off and clipped Hanley on the chin and broke his jaw. Six weeks later when Hanley finally got the fine copper wiring removed from his upper and lower teeth so he could talk again, he was asked about the nature of the altercation. "Well, sir," he said mock seriously, "it wuz like this---I wuz broadcastin when I should a been tunin in!" This book, definitely a MUST read, is a delight from start to finish. Readers will return to its pages again and again to savor the charming stories and anecdotes. . . .

I enjoy writing. I don’t possess an imagination that can make up fiction, so I only write about actual historical events particularly those that occurred during my life. As has been said, truth can be stranger than fiction. Necessarily, my writings include stories involving my forebears, but they predominantly document events that took place during my marriage with Alida. I was born and raised in Scotland, a country known for its excellent education system. I was able to read and write before my sixth birthday. As a boy, I read extensively, first comics then the classics. I say “comics” but the weekly publications (Rover, Wizard and others) consisted solely of adventure stories, words without any pictures. Boys would create pictures in their own minds to illustrate what they were reading. I hope that readers will be able to form word pictures in their imaginations when they read the stories in this book.

An Ordinary Guy spirits us along his journey from the post World War Two neighborhoods of the Bronx through his days as a cadet at the New York State University Maritime College to his thirty years at sea sailing as mate on oil tankers and captain of harbor and sea-going towing vessels. He allows us a peek into the the world of boats and the crews that worked them. Along the way we are skillfully transported through the rich tapestry of history that saw the Vietnam Era, the struggle for civil rights, a resignation of a president, the horror of 9/11 and the response to international terrorism. The Ordinary Guy shares with us his interpretation of these events, all the while entertaining us with tales that range from the informative to the outrageous. We are his passengers as he takes us along on his joyous and sometimes angry romp through seventy years of the extraordinary life and times of this ordinary guy.
