Fray Luis de Granada (Luis de Sarria; Granada, 1504-Lisboa, 1588), de la orden de los dominicos, se destac� como predicador y confesor y consejero de la nobleza y fue el escritor asc�tico m�s importante en Espa�a y Portugal de su tiempo. El cual escribe esta obra Memorial de la Vida Cristiana (1565) pero que despu�s �l mismo adicion� o ampli� y que es la presente obra. La primera parte de esta obra contiene un hermos�simo Tratado del Amor de Dios, y en la segunda una de La Vida de Cristo o Meditaciones sobre algunos pasos y misterios principales de la vida de Nuestro Salvador, materias tratadas compendiosamente en el Memorial de la Vida Cristiana, y que ahora maravillosamente fueron m�s desarrolladas en estas adiciones al Memorial por el mismo Granada. De ah� que en el t�tulo se diga Adiciones. En el tratado del amor divino, se extiende en explicar los medios por donde se alcanza este amor, y los impedimentos que de �l nos apartan, para concluir con siete consideraciones sobre los beneficios divinos, y otras siete sobre las perfecciones divinas, motivos principal�simos del amor de Dios. Porque como �l menciona, tres cosas se�aladamente mueven nuestra voluntad a amar a Dios, que son, su incomprensible bondad, y su inmensa caridad, y sus grandes beneficios: los cuales de tal manera se hallan en la vida de nuestro Salvador, el cual �l desarrolla en el segundo tratado de esta obra de la Vida de Cristo. En este mismo libro tambi�n se trata de la perfecci�n de la vida cristiana, a la cual, todos se deber�an esforzar a caminar para ella.

The public authorities have not successfully resolved the management of the traumatic memory of the wars, dictatorships and massacres to which the European project was always intended to be a counterpoint. The conflict of memories and the public discourses about the past are latent on ideological, political and cultural levels. However, if in the past the conflict concerning memories tended to develop inside the borders of countries, it has now leapt into the European arena. This has also led to the confrontation and questioning of the great narratives established in the common memory, especially with countries of the East joining the European Union. Each community, group or nation maintains common memories that do not always fit in or converge with a general overall account. The origins of the UB Solidarity Foundation’s European Observatory on Memories lie in these debates, and through this book — which includes the contributions of specialists in multiple disciplines and the speeches that were given at the first international symposium, “Memory and Power: A Transnational Perspective” — it hopes to present some of the key challenges that this conflict of memories has in store for us in the present and in the future.
