Memories of my Africa: enjoying Africa and its people consists of thirty-one short stories. They describe the author's experiences from 1964 through 2007 in the African countries where he lived and worked as a physics teacher and a trainer of physics teachers in Uganda, Botswana and Ethiopia. I have written down my experiences there as they happened, without adding or embellishing. The informative book also features black and white photos taken by the author and his wife. The news about Africa is not good news. We hear of corruption, famine, war, and genocide. My aim in publishing this book is to show another side of Africa, a more positive side than one usually finds in the news. I want people to know that Africa is a nice place and that Africans are wonderful people. Bob Landheer lived and worked in Africa as a teacher for a total of eleven years. Those were the best years of my life I don't deny all the bad things that have been and are happening. But there is a more positive side to Africa also. This is what my book is about. He wrote this book for his grandchildren. Now retired, he lives in Hilversum, the Netherlands. Publisher's website: http: //sbpra.com/BobLandhee

Historical Memory In Africa written by Mamadou Diawara and has been published by Berghahn Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Africa categories.

A vast amount of literature--both scholarly and popular--now exists on the subject of historical memory, but there is remarkably little available that is written from an African perspective. This volume explores the inner dynamics of memory in all its variations, from its most destructive and divisive impact to its remarkable potential to heal and reconcile. It addresses issues on both the conceptual and the pragmatic level and its theoretical observations and reflections are informed by first-hand experiences and comparative reflections from a German, Indian, and Korean perspective. A new insight is the importance of the future dimension of memory and hence the need to develop the ability to 'remember with the future in mind'. Historical memory in an African context provides a rich kaleidoscope of the diverse experiences and perspectives--and yet there are recurring themes and similar conclusions, connecting it to a global dialogue to which it has much to contribute, but from which it also has much to receive.

South African Memories by Sarah Isabella Augusta Wilson The above words, written by one of the greatest philosophers of olden time, have often impressed me, and I have frequently quoted them when asked why I did not write an account of the interesting travels and adventures I have had in my life. It has therefore required a great deal of courage to take up my pen and record a few recollections of South Africa. I felt that, were they ever to be written at all, it must be before the rapidly passing years diminish the interest in that land, which in the past has been the object of such engrossing attention; and that at the present time, when the impending Federation of South Africa has at length crowned the hopes of those patriots who have laboured patiently and hopefully to bring about this great result, it might be appropriate to recall those days when Englishmen, who had made South Africa their home, had much to contend with, even before the fierce struggle to keep "the flag flying" in the years of 1899-1902. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with a book that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. In the following write up I have recreated my experiences and adventures covering safaris over a dozen year period ranging from the Cape to the Caprivi in discovering Africa . It's a story that tries to capture the feel of safari, the smells, the sounds, and sights one experiences in the African bush. Despite all the game taken and the travel to remote and exotic locations, it was the experiences, the adventure, and most of all the memories created by the journeys that were the real essence of what an African hunt is all about. Someone once suggested that I should write a book about my safari adventures and my love affair with Africa. Well, I have. I take you along on my hunting adventures and experiences, some serious and some humorous, ranging from a charging angry 12,000 pound elephant to a battle with a little 30 pound bullet proof sharpes grysbok. Those who have hunted in Africa have many memories of their own from safari. In the following I share my memories so that both the African safari veteran and someone who is still dreaming of going on safari can share in my hunting experiences and the memories I have collected. The book is not just about shooting but it’s about experiencing the feeling of hunting wild animals on their own turf, the unexpected events, and the dangers in the thick bush going face to face with a dangerous animal that can quickly turn the table making you the hunted, and to test yourself when a tough situation arises. But, most importantly, it’s about collecting memories.

Memories of Africa: Home and Abroad in the United States suggests a new lens for viewing African Diaspora studies: the experiences of African memoirists who live in the United States. The book shows how African Diaspora memoirs beautifully and grippingly depict the experiences of African migrants over time through political, social, and cultural spheres. In reading African Diaspora memoirs from the transatlantic slave trade period to the present, a reader can understand the complexity of the African migrant legacy and evolution. Author Toyin Falola argues that memoirs are significant not only in their interpretation of events conveyed by the memoirists but also in demonstrating how interpersonal and human the stories told can be. Memoirs are powerful because they are emotionally captivating and because important themes and events circulate around a particular person (in this case, the memoirist). Undoubtedly, a memoir is significant because it can teach anyone about a part of the human experience, even if the “facts” are not described without bias. Through this sort of narrative, the reader cannot help but enter into the memoirist’s mind and, therefore, feel more empathy for them. In doing so, the reader can “feel” what the memoirist feels and “see” what the memoirist sees as clearly as is humanly possible. In this way, the historical events and life lessons become tangible and poignantly real to the reader.
