Written by a born Prophet and reputable Spiritual Scientist, His Lordship Bishop Bassey Effiong Orok; Salt of the Earth is a package of universal realities, and an eye-opener to all of humanity, as it unveils the universal components that are within the occupant of the prestigious Office of Christhood called Christ, as it combines mysteries of eternal science and pure spirituality to prove its facts. It likens Christ to what is generally called Salt, which naturally transforms into a crystalline substance, gives seawater its characteristic taste and is used for seasoning or preserving food. This book reveals Christ as the natural origin of salt, making a critical discussion about salt as the seasoning instrument of life, and following up by explaining the spiritual, physical and potential meaning of salt. It also unveils the circumstances behind the first usage of salt, which hitherto was hidden from man. Among other contents are Christ as the Heavenly Taste and Controller of Salt; the existence of salt in the seven continents of the world and the different powers attached to salty and fresh water. It provides details on top issues such as the thirty-four blessings of the elects of Christ, the seven messengers of His elects, the twenty-six will-powers, and eight merriment awaiting His elects. Before revealing the salvation that awaits the elects of Christ, it examines in-depth the meaning of the phrase, Salt of the Earth, as well as the ten different natural expressions of the salty manifestation of the saints, the Elects of Christ, His power of preservation and His unlimited power of manifestation, the quality of salvation, and the fourteen reasons why Christ receives the highest award and honour in the entire Universe. It is a book that cuts across all boundaries, irrespective of religion, faith, belief, nations, tribes and tongues. Visit the Official Website of the Author at www.BeoSpiritual.org

Century after century, camels and their drivers have traveled the sands between the fabled city of Timbuktu and the infamous salt mines of Taoudenni, hauling supplies from the proverbial end of the earth to an even farther-flung outpost, deep in Mali's slice of the Sahara. They return laden with tombstone-sized slabs of solid salt. While nearly all of the great trans-Saharan trade routes have disappeared, the Caravan of White Gold--so called because the salt was once literally worth its weight in gold--marches on, spared by unmatched isolation. Hearing that the caravans were threatened by the introduction of trucks, author Benanav joined a caravan, becoming one of the few Westerners to do so. He visited the modern city of Timbuktu, a sprawling, dilapidated town of mud-brick dwellings, and haggled to join a caravan to a destination once used as a jail, the salt mines. Following his amused guide, Walid, Benanav lived for weeks among the camel drivers, marching eighteen hours a day for nearly a thousand miles through sandstorms and searing heat. Along the way, he learned how to care for and ride camels, mastered the threecup morning tea ceremony, and played doctor to impoverished salt miners. A gripping narrative of the unique Islamic culture, at a time when Western access to the Islamic world is increasingly limited, Men of Salt is a revelation, and an important addition to the literature of history and of travel.

The classic pacifist novel by a major Polish writer, who was nominated for the Nobel Prize At the beginning of the twentieth century the villagers of the Carpathian mountains lead a simple life, much as they have always done. The modern world has yet to reach the inhabitants of this remote region of the Habsburg Empire. Among them is Piotr, a bandy-legged peasant, who wants nothing more from life than an official railway cap, a cottage, and a bride with a dowry. But then the First World War reaches the mountains and Piotr is drafted into the army. All the weight of imperial authority is used to mould him into an unthinking fighting machine, forced to fight a war he does not understand, for interests other than his own. The Salt of the Earth is a classic war novel and a powerfully pacifist tale about the consequences of war for ordinary men. Józef Wittlin was born in 1896 and served in the Austro-Hungarian army during the First World War. His experiences inspired him to write The Salt of the Earth. Published in 1935 to great success, it received the Polish National Academy Prize, won Wittlin a nomination for the Nobel Prize, and has since been translated into 14 languages. Wittlin was also a translator and a poet, penning numerous essays including 'My Lwów', included in City of Lions, also published by Pushkin Press. With the outbreak of the Second World War he fled to France and then to New York, where he died in 1976.

"The Regina Riot, which erupted in that city's Market Square on July 1, 1935, was the climax of a strike by relief camp workers which had begun in British Columbia on April 4. After lingering two months in Vancouver, the participants struck out east by freight train, on to Ottawa, where they intended to tell the Government of Canada that the situation of the unemployed had become intolerable. The origins of the Strike, the Trek, and the Riot -- the character of those events -- are what this book is all about. It is a narrative, composed from federal, provincial and municipal records, from news reports, from interviews with participants, from sworn testimony, from photographs, from maps, from sawn-off baseball bats. It is the story of an event which figured prominently, at the same instant, in the history of the Canadian worker, in the history of the Canadian radical, in the histories of two Canadian cities and in the history of R. B. Bennet's Depression years government." --
