Penarasian emik Registrasi Sosial Ekonomi Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) RI pada tahun 2022 di 16 wilayah amatan merekam tantangan petugas survei dalam mengemban tugas negara untuk menghimpun data yang valid, akurat, dan transparan demi terwujudnya “Satu Data Kependudukan Indonesia”. Oleh karena data tak sekadar angka, diperlukan pendalaman untuk mengungkap sisi sosial-politik atas data yang bersifat lokal. Buku ini mengulas aspek yang tersembunyi dari survei, yaitu aspek kualitatif. Berbagai data kualitatif dari pertanyaan-pertanyaan dalam survei dikembangkan dan diperdalam sesuai konteks wilayah survei turut menjadi bagian penting yang disajikan. Narasi emik yang selama ini menjadi kenangan petugas survei saat proses pendataan pun menjadi bagian menarik dalam buku ini. Proses penggalian sudut pandang subyek yang diteliti maupun para petugas pendata tidak terlepas dari karakter sosial budaya wilayah-wilayah lokal setempat yang berbeda antara satu dengan lainnya. Banyaknya permasalahan yang diangkat melalui pendekatan penelitian kualitatif menghasilkan narasi terceritakan yang cukup panjang. Dengan pertimbangan komprehensifitas tulisan, penarasian emik ini pun dipecah menjadi dua seri dalam penerbitan bukunya. Seri 1 ini mengemukakan narasi emik pada wilayah amatan Indonesia Tengah dan Timur. Sekalipun dipecah, masing-masing seri buku tersebut memiliki ruang lingkup pembahasan yang sama dan diberikan alat ikat yang memadai agar hubungan antara Seri 1 dan Seri 2 tetap ada.

Global value chains (GVCs) powered the surge of international trade after 1990 and now account for almost half of all trade. This shift enabled an unprecedented economic convergence: poor countries grew rapidly and began to catch up with richer countries. Since the 2008 global financial crisis, however, the growth of trade has been sluggish and the expansion of GVCs has stalled. Meanwhile, serious threats have emerged to the model of trade-led growth. New technologies could draw production closer to the consumer and reduce the demand for labor. And trade conflicts among large countries could lead to a retrenchment or a segmentation of GVCs. World Development Report 2020: Trading for Development in the Age of Global Value Chains examines whether there is still a path to development through GVCs and trade. It concludes that technological change is, at this stage, more a boon than a curse. GVCs can continue to boost growth, create better jobs, and reduce poverty provided that developing countries implement deeper reforms to promote GVC participation; industrial countries pursue open, predictable policies; and all countries revive multilateral cooperation.
