Islam adalah agama yang menekankan standart dalam memahami agamanya. Para ulama lah yang kemudian merumuskan bagaimanakah standart yang dimaksud itu, berikut perinciannya. Standart itu lazim disebut sebagai metodologi atau “manhaj”, yang terdiri dari tiga komponen yang saling terintegrasi. Tiga komponen tersebut adalah : 1. Data-data yang berupa ayat Al-Qur’an, As Sunnah, dan Atsar (jejak) riwayat para sahabat beserta orang yang mengikuti mereka. 2. Qaidah-qaidah (kaedah-kaedah ilmiah) dalam menggunakan data-data dalil sebagaimana yang disebutkan sebelumnya. Baik itu qoidah untuk menvalidasi data, untuk menganalisa data, ataupun untuk mengevaluasi hasil analisa data tersebut. 3. Role Model (teladan dan tokoh rujukan) yang memiliki otoritas dengan berdasarkan justifikasi dalil, yang digunakan sebagai acuan dalam memahami data-data ataupun qoidah-qoidah tersebut. Metodologi yang saling terintegrasi itu lazim disebut sebagai Manhaj Salaf, yang mana ini berarti kita mengacu kepada metodologi Salaf sebagai role model (teladan dan tokoh rujukan) kita dalam memahami data-data dan qaidah-qaidah dalam menjalankan agama. Inilah standart dalam memahami dan menjalankan agama dengan benar itu. *** Buku ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan Manhaj Salaf secara ilmiah, sistematik, komprehensif, dan mudah untuk difahami. Khususnya bagi pemula. Ketiga komponen yang saling berintegrasi itu akan dijelaskan dalam buku ini dalam menjelaskan mengenai Manhaj Salaf. Dengan itu, maka diharapkan kita akan mendapatkan gambaran yang utuh mengenai Manhaj Salaf ini. Tidak sepotong-sepotong, dan cukup untuk memberikan kita dasar pijakan yang benar dan kokoh dalam beragama. Ciri khas dari buku kami ini adalah mudah untuk difahami, sistematis, integratif, dan komprehensif. Setidaknya demikianlah harapan kami. Atas itu maka kami sengaja memilih bahasa yang mudah, dan sistematika penjabaran yang cukup lengkap. Karena bagi sebagian orang yang berusaha memahami Manhaj Salaf, mungkin ada dua kendala yang dia hadapi : 1. Bahasa yang mungkin kurang mudah untuk difahami. Kurang mudah untuk difahami karena mungkin kurang sistematis, atau masih merasa asing dengan istilah istilah yang ada. Atau karena bahasa yang digunakan, lebih ditujukan untuk orang yang dianggap sudah memiliki pondasi awal pemahaman terlebih dahulu. 2. Kendala memahami pembahasan mengenai Manhaj Salaf hanya secara sepotong sepotong, tidak bertahap, dan tidak dimulai dari pembangunan pondasi paling awalnya terlebih dahulu Akibatnya pengertian Manhaj Salaf bagi sebagian orang (terutama pemula), lebih seperti potongan informasi yang terpisah pisah (baca : puzzle) yang mereka dapatkan. Yang mana puzzle itu harus digabungkan antara satu sama lain, agar tercipta gambaran yang sempurna. Atas pertimbangan itulah, maka kami tulis buku ini. Banyaknya kesesatan yang dipasarkan sekaligus dai penyesatnya, jelas membutuhkan penyeimbang. Islam pun mensyariatkan tahdzir, yakni memperingatkan umat dari kesesatan secara umum atau memperingatkan umat dari “dai” tertentu secara khusus. Al-Mustasfa min 'ilm al-usul. (On Legal theory of Muslim Jurisprudence) is Imam Ghazali's work on the subject of Usul Al Fiqh. It is considered as one of the four great works in the subject. The mu`tazalite `Abd al-Jabar (d. 415) al-Qadi's al-`umad; 2. abu al-Husain (d. 473) al-Basri's al-mu`tamad(commentary on al-`umad); 3. al-Imam al-Harmian abu al-Ma`ali (d. 478) Juywani's al-Burhan Ghazali's approach to usul al-fiqh, as articulated in this last and greatest work of Law, al-Mustafa, is based on the premise that, in essence, this science is knowledge of how to extract ahkam (rules) from the Shari'ah sources. (As for the science of fiqh, it concerns itself particularly with the Shari'ah rules themselves which have been established in order to qualify the acts of the locus of obligation, man.) Accordingly, Ghazali views it as imperative that any discourse on usul focus on three essential elements: the ahkam; the adilla (sources); and the means by which rules are extracted from these sources, which ultimately includes examination of the qualifications of the extractor, namely, the mujtahid.
