Just in time for the Holy Year of Mercy, Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, preacher to the papal household, delves into the mystery of mercy, both human and divine. Jesus is "the mercy of God who became flesh," and it is his gaze of mercy that transforms us. Among the Gospel passages he explores are Jesus' encounters with Zacchaeus and the woman caught in adultery as well as the passion of Jesus, "the height of God's mercy," and his resurrection, "the victory of God's mercy." He also reminds us that just as we are recipients of God's mercy, we are called to be merciful to others. Insightful and inspiring!

When Jesus looked at Zacchaeus in the sycamore tree, it was with a gaze of mercy-and that gaze filled him with, extraordinary joy. That look of mercy caused Matthew the tax collector to become Matthew the apostle and evangelist. And even as Peter was betraying him, he was cut to the heart by Jesus' look of kindness and forgiveness. In The Gaze of Mercy, Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, preacher to the papal household, invites us to take a plunge into the pool of God's mercy. Reflecting on Gospel passages as well as the sacraments and the liturgy, Fr. Cantalamessa helps us to see Jesus as "the mercy of God who became flesh" and ourselves as the "paraclete" or comforter of others. Full of deep insight and inspiration, this book is a gift to the Church for the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Book jacket.

A Divine Mercy Resource written by Richard Torretto and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-10 with Religion categories.

For over twenty years, the author has researched and toured the country, giving talks, retreats, and seminars on Divine Mercy. Most of these have been given at the request of, or for, the John Paul II Institute of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, or the Life Foundation Ministries in Bernalillo, New Mexico. The author has found that many have not seriously read St. Faustinas diary, finding it too difficult and confusing, since it does not follow the normal diary format. Many have attempted reading other books and found them too detailed or filled with generalities. A Divine Mercy Resource has been designed as a single resource for priests, deacons, religious instructors, and devotees of Divine Mercy. Each chapter covers one aspect of the devotione.g., the chaplet, the image, the novena, etc.and is complete with full quotes and footnotes at the bottom of each page. As a vital resource, it will further an understanding of Divine Mercy and the essential devotionals associated with it, giving priests, deacons, teachers, and laity the tools to promote the message, mission and devotion to Divine Mercy. [Note: Space left by author, presumably for a photo.] The author reading the Epistle during Mass before the Original Vilnius Image of Divine Mercy, Holy Spirit Church, Vilnius, Lithuania, October 10, 2001.

Women Of Faith written by Mary Beth Fraser Connolly and has been published by Fordham Univ Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-03 with History categories.

When the Sisters of Mercy lost their foundress Sister Catherine McAuley in 1841, stories of Mother Catherine passed from one generation of sisters to the next. McAuley’s Rule and Constitutions along with her spiritual writings and correspondence communicated the Mercys’ founding charism. Each generation of Sisters of Mercy who succeeded her took these words and her spirit with them as they established new communities or foundations across the United States and around the world. In Women of Faith, Mary Beth Fraser Connolly traces the paths of the women who dedicated their lives to the Sisters of Mercy Chicago Regional Community, the first Congregation of Catholic Sisters in Chicago. More than the story of the institutions that defined the territory and ministries of the women of this Midwestern region, Women of Faith presents a history of the women who made this regional community, whether as foundresses of individual communities in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries or as the teachers, nurses, and pastoral ministers who cared for and educated generations of Midwestern American Catholics. Though they had no immediate connection with McAuley, these women inherited her spirit and vision for religious life. Focusing on how the Chicago Mercys formed a community, lived their spiritual lives, and served within the institutional Catholic Church, this three-part perspective addresses community, spirituality, and ministry, providing a means by which we can trace the evolution of these women of faith as the world around them changed. The first part of this study focuses on the origins of the Sisters of Mercy in the Midwest from the founding of the Chicago South Side community in 1846 through the amalgamation and creation of the Chicago Province in 1929. The second part examines how the Mercys came together as one province through the changes of Vatican II from 1929 to the 1980s. Part III examines life after the dramatic changes of Vatican II in the 1990s and 2000s. Presenting rich examples of how faith cannot be separated from identity, Women of Faith provides an important new contribution to the scholarship that is shaping our collective understanding of women religious.

Speaking In Tongues And Dancing Diaspora written by Mae Henderson and has been published by Race and American Culture this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Literary Criticism categories.

Tropes ranging from Houston Baker's "bluesman," to Henry Louis Gates' "signifyin'" to Geneva Smitherman's "talkin' and testifyin'" to bell hooks' "talking back" to Cheryl Wall's "worrying the line" all affirm the power of sonance and sound in the African American literary tradition. The collection of essays in Speaking in Tongues and Dancing Diaspora contributes to this tradition by theorizing the preeminence of voice and narration (and the consequences of their absence) in the literary and cultural performances of black women. Looking to work by such prominent black female authors as Alice Walker, Sherley Anne Williams, Toni Morrison, Zora Neal Hurston, among many others, Mae G. Henderson provides a deeply felt reflection on race and gender and their effects within the discourse of speaker and listener.
