Questo numero monografico è un invito collettivo a riaprire un campo di riflessione sui modi in cui è possibile pensare e praticare l’educazione in forme «altre», dentro e fuori i contesti istituzionali, accogliendo la molteplicità, la varietà, la complessità e l’ambivalenza degli spazi e dei tempi che abitiamo. Un invito reso urgente dal fatto che il campo educativo sta assistendo all’invisibilizzazione di saperi e sperimentazioni che hanno provato a immaginare l’educazione a partire da orizzonti di significato alternativi a quelli che oggi dominano il discorso pubblico. Un discorso che appare sempre più ancorato a saperi e pratiche che strumentalizzano lo spazio educativo come campo di accumulo di competenze da usare nell’infinita corsa alla competitività e che assume acriticamente il linguaggio del ritardo, dell’incompletezza, della povertà educativa, per definire i soggetti sociali e i territori che non sono al passo con obiettivi e indicatori di «successo» definiti unilateralmente dalle nuove forme di governo nazionale e globale dell’educazione.

Territorio e sviluppo sono tematiche originarie di «Meridiana», presenti sin dai primi fascicoli della rivista, e ne hanno anche accompagnato la sua evoluzione nel tempo. In questi temi troviamo anche le questioni dell’ambiente, all’inizio forse in modo più indiretto e a volte sotto traccia, ma via via in modo sempre più centrale e rilevante. D’altra parte, non poteva che essere così, dati gli obiettivi conoscitivi e la linea editoriale alla base della genesi di «Meridiana». Analizzando il Sud attraverso i temi dello sviluppo, le riflessioni contenute nei fascicoli della rivista hanno finito inevitabilmente con l’incontrare il tema del territorio con la sua eredità del passato e le sue caratteristiche naturali e ambientali. D’altronde, il territorio aveva da sempre rappresentato nella letteratura meridionalista un ambito privilegiato di osservazione. All’interno di quella visione, solo la modernizzazione e l’affermazione di innovazioni produttive e tecnologiche nell’industria e nell’agricoltura avrebbero consentito al Sud di partecipare al più generale sviluppo dell’economia capitalistica. Nel corso degli anni questa prospettiva, come sappiamo, è stata sottoposta a critiche penetranti e si è andata progressivamente modificando. Questo cambiamento di visione è uno degli elementi che contribuiscono a dare forma allo stesso progetto culturale ed editoriale di «Meridiana». Nel corso del tempo, è cresciuto notevolmente lo spazio dedicato dalla rivista a tali questioni, com’è testimoniato da numerosi fascicoli ai quali hanno partecipato autrici e autori di diverse provenienze disciplinari. Le prospettive privilegiate, com’è nella tradizione di «Meridiana», sono quelle che rimandano a una impostazione interdisciplinare e a un’ottica processuale. Non è quindi casuale che siano in forte crescita le proposte di pubblicazione su tematiche ambientali inviate alla redazione da studiose e studiosi in modo autonomo. Il presente numero della rivista contiene una serie di articoli dedicati a questi temi, che sono stati proposti come saggi liberi negli ultimi mesi e che abbiamo pensato di mettere insieme per la pubblicazione. Il fascicolo testimonia dunque il crescente interesse scientifico nei confronti delle questioni ambientali e la disponibilità di «Meridiana» a continuare a farne uno dei filoni di ricerca più attivi al suo interno. Il numero prende avvio con un saggio focalizzato sul Molo polisettoriale di Taranto, concepito per favorire la diversificazione produttiva del territorio. Segue un contributo che affronta il tema della riconversione tecnologica, energetica ed economica, analizzando il caso di Taranto e quello del Sulcis Iglesiente. L’articolo successivo ricostruisce l’esperimento nel sul della Francia della fattibilità della fusione nucleare come fonte di energia più sicura rispetto a quella ottenuta con la fissione, cercando di coinvolgere attivamente la comunità locale. Viene poi analizzata la genesi della prima Commissione parlamentare d’inchiesta sul ciclo dei rifiuti in Italia. Infine, è presentato il caso della Piscina Mirabilis di Bacoli, nella città metropolitana di Napoli, un sito archeologico considerato significativo per avviare un processo di sviluppo socio-economico equilibrato e sostenibile.

This edited collection explores the histories of trade, a peculiar literary genre that emerged in the context of the historiographical and cultural changes promoted by the histoire philosophique movement. It marked a discontinuity with erudition and antiquarianism, and interacted critically with universal history. By comparing and linking the histories of individual peoples within a common historical process, this genre enriched the reflection on civilisation that emerged during the long eighteenth century. Those who looked to the past wanted to understand the political constitutions and manners most appropriate to commerce, and grasp the recurring mechanisms underlying economic development. In this sense, histories of trade constituted a declination of eighteenth-century political economy, and thus became an invaluable analytical and practical tool for a galaxy of academic scholars, journalists, lawyers, administrators, diplomats and government ministers whose ambition was to reform the political, social and economic structure of their nations. Moreover, thanks to these investigations, a lucid awareness of historical temporality and, more particularly, the irrepressible precariousness of economic hegemonies, developed. However, as a field of tension in which multiple and even divergent intellectual sensibilities met, this literary genre also found space for critical assessments that focused on the ambivalence and dangers of commercial civilisation. Examining the complex relationship between the production of wealth and civilisation, this book provides unique insights for scholars of political economy, intellectual history and economic history.

This book presents an up-to-date portrait of the characteristics of sport clubs in various European countries and their role in society and the national sport system. Furthermore, it offers a cross-national comparative perspective of sport clubs in twenty European countries.
