July 9, 1947. Roswell, New Mexico. A young boy tags along with his father to the Roswell Army Air Field and witnesses something he was not to see or know about until fifty-three years later. August 5, 2000. Garden Plains, Kansas. A massive alien craft is spotted hovering by local citizens and darts off to the Northwest somewhere in Colorado, where it starts to tailgate commercial Flight 311 on its way to Oklahoma City. Three F-15 aircrafts are scrambling to intercept and investigate this unknown intruder. The alien craft darts off to the Southeast, and the three F-15s give pursuit of the unknown intruder. The alien craft is able to lose the F-15s in a thunderstorm near Roswell, and history repeats itself some fifty-three years later.

Metal-Reinforced Ceramics covers the principle of metal-fiber-reinforced ceramics, a well-known topic in the field of reinforced concrete. Much of the work that has been done has remained unpublished, hidden in industrial company archives due to the commercial sensitivity associated with the respective technologies that prevailed at the time, which no longer applies today. This book will discuss advanced technologies that have largely been undocumented before in a broad range of industrial application areas, with updates on alumina, silicon carbide, boron carbide, tungsten carbide, fused silica, and carbon-based ceramics which are hard, heat resistant, wear resistant, and chemically durable. Provides detailed information on fundamental principles, advanced processing technologies and industrial applications Features comprehensive industrial knowledge not usually in the public domain from the author’s experience spanning more than three decades Features armor ceramics, bioceramics, aerospace, mining and architectural ceramic applications

Heavy metal has developed from a British fringe genre of rock music in the late 1960s to a global mass market consumer good in the early twenty-first century. Early proponents of the musical style, such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Saxon, Uriah Heep and Iron Maiden, were mostly seeking to reach a young male audience. Songs were often filled with violent, sexist and nationalistic themes but were also speaking to the growing sense of deterioration in social and professional life. At the same time, however, heavy metal was seriously indebted to the legacies of blues and classical music as well as to larger literary and cultural themes. The genre also produced mythological concept albums and rewritings of classical poems. In other words, heavy metal tried from the beginning to locate itself in a liminal space between pedestrian mass culture and a rather elitist adherence to complexity and musical craftsmanship, speaking from a subaltern position against the hegemonic discourse. This collection of essays provides a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary look at British heavy metal from its beginning through The New Wave of British Heavy Metal up to the increasing internationalization and widespread acceptance in the late 1980s. The individual chapter authors approach British heavy metal from a textual perspective, providing critical analyses of the politics and ideology behind the lyrics, images and performances. Rather than focus on individual bands or songs, the essays collected here argue with the larger system of heavy metal music in mind, providing comprehensive analyses that relate directly to the larger context of British life and culture. The wide range of approaches should provide readers from various disciplines with new and original ideas about the study of this phenomenon of popular culture.

This book, "3D Printing", is divided into two parts: the first part is devoted to the relationship between 3D printing and engineering, and the second part shows the impact of 3D printing on the medical sector in general. There are five sections in the first part (sections are dedicated to stereolithography, new techniques of high-resolution 3D printing, application of 3D printers in architecture and civil engineering, the additive production with the metal components and the management of production by using previously mentioned technology in more complex ways). There are four chapters in the second part with the following topics: education of medical staff through surgical simulations, tissue engineering and potential applications of 3D printing in ophthalmology and orthopedics.

The oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl compounds is of fundamental importance in organic synthesis, due to the wide use of these products as precursors and intermediates for many drugs, vitamins and fragrances. However, traditional oxidants are often toxic and release considerable amounts of by-products. As an alternative, oxygen is among the cheaper and less polluting stoichiometric oxidants, and the implementation of a transition metal-based catalyst in combination with oxygen represents an emerging alternative to the traditional procedures. This book aims to give an overview of the aerobic oxidation of alcohols catalyzed by transition metals, and covers the most important advances in the last fifteen years. Following an introductory chapter on homogeneous-, heterogeneous- and nano-catalysis, use of copper, ruthenium, palladium, gold, vanadium and iron are discussed in turn. The book concludes with a useful overview that includes representative experimental procedures. This book will provide a valuable reference to organic chemists and green chemists in academia and industry.

None of us are immune from a particular course of action in this lifetime, it surrounds us and is a constant presence. It all began with Eve in the garden and forever reminds us, it’s tough to resist. Our choices in this lifetime define who we are and how we are to be remembered, and Alex’s journey continues with five tattooed, foul mouthed, sexy and talented men comprising of the greatest Heavy-Metal band in the world. New surprises unfold with this gregarious bunch and even bigger choices now have to be made. When it comes down to it, it’s a huge bite of the apple for some, but for Alex, could it be too much? Succumbing and giving in to the urge to do the opposite of what you believe in is the ultimate test and for most, the easy way out. This continues to be Alex’s story, these continue to be her choices and now she comes face to face with… TEMPTATION Temptation is Book 4 in the Metal Prodigy Series and should be read after Redemption Book 1, Resurrection Book 2 and Reconciliation Book 3. The author also recommends reading Trepidation, the first novella in the series released after Book 2 as several references are made relating to it in this book. 199,171 Words

Nanoscale Matter And Principles For Sensing And Labeling Applications written by Dambarudhar Mohanta and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024 with Detectors categories.

Zusammenfassung: This book is a compilation of carefully chosen chapters that cover the subjects of nanoscale matter, sensing, and labelling applications. It is aimed primarily at scientists and researchers who are already involved in theme-based research or who are just starting their careers. Despite the diverse nature of the topics covered, which include a range of materials in various forms and uses, the emphasis is primarily on sensing and labelling phenomena. The book begins with materials quantification in nanoscale systems by using an innovative technique like "molecular secondary ion mass spectrometry without calibration standards". Subsequently, the book features an array of materials such as inorganic semiconductor nanoscale particles, carbon dots, rare-earth oxides, polymer nanocomposites, and a few biomaterials, all of which illustrate their functionality and potential for deployment in a wide variety of sensing applications. Although the book delves into the technical aspects of fabrication workouts to some extent, the focus is predominantly on the physical principles, mechanisms, and relevance involved in sensing and labelling applications. The book covers a wide range of topics that leverage the unique properties of nanoscale materials. By carefully selecting appropriate active materials, the authors explore the detection of LPG, hazardous and explosive gases, as well as humidity sensing and hydrogen evolution. It also delves into photo-sensing and persistent photoconductivity by using nanoscale semiconductors, which are used for heavy metal sensing and UV sensing, respectively. The use of metal nanoparticles in various forms is reviewed to address issues related to water contamination, biofilm protection, and food-borne pathogens. The book also discusses surface plasmon resonance, starting with its basic principles and expanding to its relevance in a broader perspective, with a greater focus on applied biosensing. Nanoscale ferrites and magnetic systems are explored with an emphasis on magnetic sensing and actuation. Lastly, the book explores the use of rare-earth-based nanosystems, highlighting persistent luminescence and up/down-converted transitions, which have unprecedented applications in bioimaging and biolabeling. Every effort has been made to strike a balance between the observed phenomena in the emerging areas of sensing applications and suitable theoretical treatments there in.
