The decline of religion and ever increasing influence of science pose acute ethical issues for us all. Can we reject the literal truth of the Gospels yet still retain a Christian morality? Can we defend any 'moral values' against the constant encroachments of technology? Indeed, are we in danger of losing most of the qualities which make us truly human? Here, drawing on a novelists insight into art, literature and psychology, Iris Murdoch conducts an ongoing debate with major writers, thinkers and theologians - from Augustine to Wittgenstein, Shakespeare to Sartre, Plato to Derrida - to provide fresh and compelling answers to these crucial questions.

The Beginner’s Guide to Metaphysics is an introduction into certain types of metaphysical knowledge that has been presented throughout time immemorial. It is by no means all inclusive. Some of the material presented dates back to Atlantis, Mu (“Lemurian”) and Ancient Egyptian times. Recent discoveries are now indicating that Atlantis existed well over 13,000 years ago. It is the hope of this author to provide some basic insight into our Earthly perspective of the Universe, for our true understanding has been hidden for thousands of years. It should also be noted that the ultimate goal of this project is to broaden one’s perspective and provide opportunities to expand one’s consciousness, and not just individually, or even globally, but on a galactic level. The world in which we live is based upon metaphysics. The Greeks considered metaphysics to be one of the branches of philosophy. Merriam-Webster defines metaphysics as “a division of philosophy that is concerned with the fundamental nature of reality and being...” [emphasis added], which also includes the study of ontology, cosmology and epistemology. While physics is based upon our three dimensional existence and concerns the nature of matter and energy, the prefix meta refers to going beyond nature and the origin of reality itself. A few topics discussed in this Beginner’s Guide include Chakras, Numerology, Intuition and Reincarnation. By having basic knowledge of each topic contained in this book, the opportunity to hone in on a specific subject that resonates with one’s understanding of the universe will become clear. In turn, this will provide the reader the jump start needed to pursue a specific field of interest(s), and gain a greater understanding of the true limitlessness of every human being.

Everywhere And Everywhen written by Nick Huggett and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-02-03 with Philosophy categories.
Why does time pass and space does not? Are there just three dimensions? What is a quantum particle? Nick Huggett shows that philosophy -- armed with a power to analyze fundamental concepts and their relationship to the human experience -- has much to say about these profound questions about the universe. In Everywhere and Everywhen, Huggett charts a journey that peers into some of the oldest questions about the world, through some of the newest, such as: What shape is space? Does it have an edge? What is the difference between past and future? What is time in relativity? Is time travel possible? Are there other universes? Huggett shows that answers to these profound questions are not just reserved for physics, and that philosophy can not only address but help advance our view of our deepest questions about the universe, space, and time, and their implications for humanity. His lively, accessible introduction to these topics is suitable for a general reader with no previous exposure to these profound and exciting questions.

An Introduction To Metaphysics written by Martin Heidegger and has been published by Motilal Banarsidass Publishe this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Philosophy categories.
This book contains a series of lectures delivered by Heidegger in 1935 at the University of Freiburg. In this work Herdegger presents the broadest and the most inteligible account of the problem of being, as he sees this problem. First, he discusses the relevance of it by pointing out how this problem lies at the root not only of the most basic metaphysical questions but also of our human existence in its present historical setting. Then after a short digression into the grammatical forms and etymological roots of the word "being", Heidegger enters into a lengthy discussion of the meaning of being in Greek thinking, letting pass at the same time no opportunity to stress the impact of this thinking about being on subsequent western speculation. His contention is that the meaning of being in Greek thinking underwent a serious restriction through the opposition that was introduced between being on one hand and becoming, appearance, thinking and values on the other.
