Bagi sebagian orang Islam, Syiah cenderung dipersepsikan sebagai sekte minoritas yang “berbeda” dengan paham keagamaan maistream di Indonesia. Bahkan, tak jarang stigma “sesat” dan “menyimpang” yang dilabelkan kepada komunitas pecinta ahlulbait ini kerapkali menuai konflik horizontal di masyarakat. Misalnya, kita pernah disuguhi cerita kelam perseteruan Sunni-Syiah di Bangil Jawa Timur pada rentang tahun 2007-2011. Akan tetapi, fenomena ketegangan dan resistensi tersebut tidak dialami oleh kalangan Syi’i yang hidup di tengah kultur Sunni (baca: NU) di Jepara Jawa Tengah. Oleh penulisnya, buku ini berupaya memotret sisi lain dari Syiah melalui kaca mata pendidikan multikultural berbasis appreciative inquiry. Penelitian ini mengambil latar Pondok Pesantren Syi’ah Darut Taqrib Krapyak yang merupakan pusat kegiatan pendidikan keagamaan Syi’ah di Jepara. Melalui pendekatan riset kualitatif mengandalkan wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi, penulis berhasil menunjukkan fakta menarik ke ruang publik. Ternyata, banyak terobosan inklusif sebagai manifestasi praktik pendidikan multikultural. Antara lain berupa forum tabayyun terbuka. Melalui perjumpaan intensif antara kelompok Sunni dengan Syi’ah, sedikit banyak telah menggeser sudut pandang syakwasangka dan mengikis aneka macam praduga negatif. Ponpes Darut Taqrib juga berupaya melakukan harmoni interaksi sosial yang inklusif. Seluruh jajaran pesantren, mulai dari pengasuh, ustad, dan santri, secara rutin menggelar kegiatan bakti sosial yang melibatkan masyarakat di sekitar pesantren. Mereka juga tak pernah lelah menumbuhkan spirit nasionalisme pada santri. Bentuknya pun pelbagai ragam. Seperti upacara bendera, tirakatan malem 17 Agustus, dan pernyataan sikap tentang penolakan terhadap segala wujud tindakan bernuansa radikal.
