Mit den thasischen Münzen und den Tetradrachmen des "thasischen Typs" wird die umfangreichste Prägung der Zeit des Übergangs vom späthellenistischen zum frührömischen Finanzsystem auf dem Balkan erstmals umfassend zusammengestellt und untersucht. Das vorliegende Stempelcorpus der thasischen Prägungen des 2. bis 1. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. erfasst die originalen Münzen der Insel, d. h. die um 180 v. Chr. geprägten Drachmen sowie die zwischen 168 und 130/120 v. Chr. emittierten Tetradrachmen. Hier können 663 Stempelpaare unterschieden werden. Die Tetradrachmen des "thasischen Typs" wurden 148-90/80 v. Chr. massenhaft geprägt; hier stellt der Autor 1302 Stempelpaare vor. Auf 118 Münztafeln werden auch alle Stempel der ca. 3000 untersuchten Münzen abgebildet. Der Wert des Buches liegt nicht allein im Stempelkatalog, sondern es werden auch alle Schatzfunde erfasst, die thasische Tetradrachmen enthalten. Es sind 334 Funde, deren Vorstellung und Auswertung ein eindrucksvolles Bild des Münzumlaufes in den Gebieten der antiken Thraker, Geten und Daker liefert. In Thrakien bildeten die thasischen Tetradrachmen, die Tetradrachmen des "thasischen Typs" und ihre Imitationen im Zeitraum von 168 bis 90/80 v. Chr. die Hauptwährung. Auf der Basis dieser umfangreichen Materialzusammenstellung werden die umstrittenen Fragen der Datierung dieser Prägungen und der Lokalisation der Münzstätten sowie nach den Auftraggebern für die Prägungen behandelt. Im Zusammenhang mit der Darlegung der Münzzirkulation entsteht somit ein anschauliches Bild der historischen Epoche. Die Tetradrachmen des "thasischen Typs" - von I. Prokopov als römisches Geld in griechischer Ausprägung klassifiziert - erleichterten als gesamtthrakische Währung eine relativ reibungslose Eingliederung des Gebiets in die römische Wirtschaftsspähre.
