Guzmán Jalisco, lugar, donde conoció a una bella joven de quien se enamoro profundamente. Esta joven, lo evangelizo con mucha inteligencia y amor, habiendo conseguido que el sacerdote de una excepcional manera espiritual, cambiara sus pensamientos y se convirtiera, aceptando a Jesús el Cristo, como su Salvador. Luego durante sus actividades, fue llamado para hacer un servicio en la ciudad, así es que de esa forma, fue engañado, habiendo sido capturado por una banda de secuestradores y llevado a una casa de seguridad y después a otra, pero debido a su carisma, logro convencer a su custodio, hablándole de su salvación personal y de su alma. El secuestrador mismo, llamo al párroco, dando el domicilio, lugar en el que fue rescatado, para finalmente, casarse con la bella criatura de la cual se enamoro. Y aquí termina la historia de la vida del sacerdote que por amor y servicio a la humanidad, encontró a Dios, se encontró así mismo y encontró el amor que Dios le tenía reservado para su existencia. El fin de esta novela, es que todos aprendamos a ser seres simples, sin ambiciones desmedidas, pues el verdadero bienestar y amor que todos debemos de disfrutar, están siempre en el dar, no en el recibir, ya que el recibir a pesar de que nos beneficia, no nos da la gratificación de Dios, que embarga nuestro mas intimo ser.

The following poetry collection involves a compilation of poems about four main topics, of which the main catalyzer is love and hope. None have been previously published, although they have been orally shared amongst friends and family. They mainly speak about the ways in which family, friends, God, and the experience of falling in love have forged the author’s thankfulness for the experiences of studying in Germany, Finland, and Austria as a foreign student from Colombia. After having studied and worked in Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, Austria, and England, David Caicedo Sarralde’s mother tongue became permanently intertwined with English—so much so that he views it as another mother tongue, which has given the wonderful opportunity to express a wider scope of feelings and emotions. These poems are mixed in English and Spanish, in which bilingual young adults could find a delightful taste. The author’s personal influences coming from Pablo Neruda’s romantic poems, or Reiner Maria Rilke, Jimmy Santiago Baca, Gastón Baquero, or Uncle Walt’s majestically hopeful perspective on life have also inspired him to write this book as a way to connect with the hearts of people who still believe in the unexplainable beauty of life, including falling in love, or even the faith in love at first sight.

Applying a broad geographical approach to comparative Latino literary and cultural studies, Continental Shifts illuminates how the discursive treatment of Latinos changed dramatically following the enactment of NAFTA—a shift exacerbated by 9/11. While previous studies of immigrant representation have focused on single regions (the US/Mexico border in particular), specific genres (literature vs. political rhetoric), or individual groups, Continental Shifts unites these disparate discussions in a provocative, in-depth examination. Bringing together a wide range of groups and genres, this intercultural study explores novels by Latin American and Latino writers, a border film by Tommy Lee Jones and Guillermo Arriaga, “viral” videos of political speeches, popular television programming (particularly shows that feature incarceration and public shaming), and user-generated YouTube videos. These cultural products reveal the complexity of Latino representations in contemporary discourse. While tropes of Latino migrants as threatening, diseased foreign bodies date back to the nineteenth century, Continental Shifts marks the more pernicious, recent images of Latino laborers (legal and not) in a variety of contemporary media. Using vivid examples, John Riofrio demonstrates the connections between rhetorical and ideological violence and the physical and psychological violence that has more intensely plagued Latino communities in recent decades. Culminating with a consideration of the “American” identity, this eye-opening work ultimately probes the nation’s ongoing struggle to uphold democratic ideals amid dehumanizing multiethnic tension.
