Rainwater as a resource has been underrated due to scientific misunderstandings about its quality, the lack of hydrologic design tools for small catchments, such as roofs, the preference for large infrastructures, and the small number of successful cases reported. This book summarizes 17 years of scientific research, operational monitoring, and practical demonstration projects made at Seoul National University Rainwater Research Center. A new paradigm of rainwater is proposed, which is to collect rainwater and use it, instead of draining it. Based on conventional hydrology and methodology, a hydrologic modelling method for micro-catchment is suggested. By incorporating several controllable measures into the design, the system can solve several water-related problems such as flooding, water conservation, emergency water storage, and groundwater recharge. Now is the time to adapt. Many good examples are reported from around the world, including South Korea. Fifty-nine South Korean cities have announced regulations and commitment to become ‘Rain Cities’ by offering financial incentives to rainwater management systems or subsidizing them. This book is written to give hope to those who seek to transform their community from a ‘Drain City’ to a ‘Rain City’. It has been prepared to clear the ambiguity about rainwater management and transform the experts as well as the citizens to become active proponents of rainwater. This book can be a guide to transform the world into Rain Cities, and become a viable solution toward Sustainable Development Goal Number 6.

Mid-Latitude Slope Deposits (Cover Beds), Second Edition focuses on widespread deposits and discusses their properties, genesis and age in subdued mountains of Central Europe, where to date most research on the matter has been conducted. The ecological consequences of such slope deposits on soils, slope water dynamics, and slope failures are addressed. Finally, transfer of the cover-bed concept to other mid-latitude regions is attempted for the reconstruction of landscape evolution. This unique compilation, covering several decades of a facies-oriented approach to slope-deposit research delivers deep insights into the wide field of research on cover beds and encourages researchers all over the world. This is a valuable resource for students, academics and researchers in geomorphology, quaternary sciences, pedology, hydrology, and sedimentology. - Provides a unique compilation covering several decades of slope-deposit research with a facies-oriented approach - Covers new fields of research developed since the first edition on interbedded/intercalated loess-like slope deposits and the provenance of cover-bed eolian matter - Addresses ecological consequences on soils, slope water dynamics and slope failures

Floods continue to cause significant damage in the United States and elsewhere, and questions about the causes of flooding continue to be debated. A significant amount of research has been conducted on the relationship between forest management activities and water yield, peak flows, and flooding; somewhat less research has been conducted on the modeling of these activities as related to flooding. This bibliography and online bibliographic database provide a searchable listing of more than 600 publications related to the interrelationships of forest and forest management on watershed and flood hydrology. Also included are publications related to the capability and limitations of currently available hydrologic models and modeling approaches, with particular emphasis on their utility for evaluating forest management effects.
