The focus of the symposium, which was held at the 1994 MRS Fall Meeting, was on the changes produced in the microstructure of metals, ceramics, and semiconductors by irradiation with energetic particles. This proceedings volume contains invited and contributed papers. Among the topics are computer simulation of displacement cascade damage in metals; radiation effects in ceramic insulators; and computer simulation of thermal annealing effects of self implanted silicon. This book from MRS discusses the evolution of a material's microstructure as a result of its interaction with energetic particles such as ions, neutrons or electrons. The book is inter-disciplinary and emphasizes all classes of materials including metals, intermetallic compounds, ceramics, polymers, superconductors, semiconductors and insulators. A strong focus is placed on experimental techniques for measuring and quantifying damage and microstructure changes, and on computer simulation techniques for predicting and understanding this phenomena. Topics include: ion-implantation damage in semiconductors; radiation damage in metals; radiation damage in ceramics; radiation effects in polymers and beam-induced effects.

Materials For Optical Limiting Volume 374 written by Robert Crane and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-11-20 with Computers categories.
The advent of lasers has made possible a number of optical-based systems and applications such as the compact disc (CD), laser printers, fiber optic communications, laser surgical instruments, etc. Unfortunately, while lasers permit these diverse applications, safety concerns must be addressed. A solution being pursued is the development of optical limiter materials that transmit at low intensities while changing their optical characteristics, e.g. absorption or index of refraction, when exposed to the laser's higher irradiances. Topics covered in this book relate directly to the computational design and synthesis of new optical molecules. Research on the design of limiter devices is also featured. Materials addressed include liquid crystals, organic polymers, organic dyes, C60, colloidal arrays and suspensions, transition metal oxides, semiconductors and photorefractive oxides. Topics include: modelling and solid state optical limiters; thin film and solid state optical limiters; saturable and reverse-saturable absorbers; liquid optical limiters and liquid crystalline and other optical limiters.

Neutron Scattering In Materials Science Ii Volume 376 written by Dan A. Neumann and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Science categories.
Neutron scattering proves itself a highly international area of research as scientists and engineers from twenty-one countries come together in this volume - to discuss the growth and maturation of the use of neutrons as a probe in materials research and to survey current applications. A wide range of materials are examined, including polymers, cements, high-Tc superconducting oxides and carbides, inorganic glasses, magnetic films, ceramics and metallic alloys. Topics include: instrumentation at major neutron facilities in North America; developments in instrumentation and techniques; neutron reflectivity studies of surfaces and interfaces; small angle neutron scattering (SANS) studies of polymers and complex fluids; SANS studies of ceramics and metals; residual stress analysis; cementitious materials; high-Tc superconducting materials; interfaces, multilayers and nanocrystals of magnetic materials; oxide materials; inorganic glasses; alloys; and adsorbed systems, inelastic scattering and dynamics.

Comprehensive Nuclear Materials written by and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-22 with Science categories.
Materials in a nuclear environment are exposed to extreme conditions of radiation, temperature and/or corrosion, and in many cases the combination of these makes the material behavior very different from conventional materials. This is evident for the four major technological challenges the nuclear technology domain is facing currently: (i) long-term operation of existing Generation II nuclear power plants, (ii) the design of the next generation reactors (Generation IV), (iii) the construction of the ITER fusion reactor in Cadarache (France), (iv) and the intermediate and final disposal of nuclear waste. In order to address these challenges, engineers and designers need to know the properties of a wide variety of materials under these conditions and to understand the underlying processes affecting changes in their behavior, in order to assess their performance and to determine the limits of operation. Comprehensive Nuclear Materials, Second Edition, Seven Volume Set provides broad ranging, validated summaries of all the major topics in the field of nuclear material research for fission as well as fusion reactor systems. Attention is given to the fundamental scientific aspects of nuclear materials: fuel and structural materials for fission reactors, waste materials, and materials for fusion reactors. The articles are written at a level that allows undergraduate students to understand the material, while providing active researchers with a ready reference resource of information. Most of the chapters from the first Edition have been revised and updated and a significant number of new topics are covered in completely new material. During the ten years between the two editions, the challenge for applications of nuclear materials has been significantly impacted by world events, public awareness, and technological innovation. Materials play a key role as enablers of new technologies, and we trust that this new edition of Comprehensive Nuclear Materials has captured the key recent developments. Critically reviews the major classes and functions of materials, supporting the selection, assessment, validation and engineering of materials in extreme nuclear environments Comprehensive resource for up-to-date and authoritative information which is not always available elsewhere, even in journals Provides an in-depth treatment of materials modeling and simulation, with a specific focus on nuclear issues Serves as an excellent entry point for students and researchers new to the field
