This book is a collection of the lectures, held at the International Summer School ISSAOS-2000 in L'Aquila (Italy), given by invited lecturers coming from both Europe and the USA. The goal of the book is to provide a broad panorama of spaceborne remote sensing techniques, at both microwave and visible-infrared bands and by both active and passive sensors, for the retrieval of atmospheric and oceanic parameters. A significant emphasis is given to the physical modeling background, instrument potential and limitations, inversion methods and applications. Topics on international remote sensing programs and assimilation techniques into numerical weather forecast models are also touched. The main purpose of the book is to offer to young scientists, Ph.D. or equivalent students, and to all who would like to have a broad-spectrum understanding of spaceborne remote sensing capabilities, introductory material to each remote sensing topic written by the most qualified experts in the field.

Remote Sensing of Climate provides cutting-edge techniques in remote sensing of climate variability and the environment. The book focuses on methods and data analytics, advancements in scientific research in the field, and further proffers recommendations on the possible knowledge gaps and future scientific research directions. It covers eight key themes of remote sensing and climate variability, including discussions on how the various aspects from each chapter of the themes interrelate. It also integrates several divergent perspectives on remote sensing and climate variability and the environment to show the interrelationships between the perspectives. This is an important reference for those in education and research working on remote sensing and climate science who need methods, data analytics, case studies, research strides, and key knowledge gaps in the field. - Discusses advancements and future research directions in remote sensing for climate variability in a variety of environments - Includes simplified and condensed methodologies and data analytics - Provides case studies on remote sensing of climate variability, both of the Northern hemisphere temperate systems which are little affected by climate variability, and the greater-impacted global south

Recent advances in theory and observations using passive microwave remote sensing have hightlighted the potential of spaceborne sensors for contributing to the required land surface measurements of soils, vegetation, snow cover and precipitation. Furthermore, the spatial resolution of passive microwave observations matches the special scales of large-scale models of land-atmosphere interactions both for data assimilation and validation. In order to stimulate and focus this research a workshop, sponsored by ESA and NASA, was organized to review the state-of-the-art in microwave radiometry related to land applications and to exchange ideas leading into new directions for future research. This volume contains the refereed papers from the aforementioned ESA/NASA workshop, which are arranged by topic, as well as the (edited) working group reports.

Professor Kondratyev and his team consider the concept of global warming due to the greenhouse effect and put forward a new approach to the problem of assessing the impact of anthropogenic processes. Considering data on both sources and sinks for atmospheric carbon and various conceptual schemes of the global carbon dioxide cycle, they suggest a new approach to studies of the problem of the greenhouse effect. They assess the role of different types of soil and vegetation in the assimilation of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and discuss models of the atmosphere ocean gas exchange and its role in the carbon dioxide cycle, paying special attention to the role of the Arctic Basin. The authors also consider models of other global atmospheric cycles for a range of atmospheric constituents, and conclude by drawing together a range of scenarios on modelling the global carbon cycle.

Climate Change A Global Challenge written by Prof. (Dr.) Jai Paul Dudeja and has been published by Notion Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-01-25 with Nature categories.
Climate change is the weather of a specific region averaged over a long period of time, like a couple of decades or more. Weather refers to short-term atmospheric conditions in a region. Unmitigated climate change can cause severe emission of greenhouse gases and global warming. Human activities, like use of fossil fuels, transport, and polluting industry etc., are the major contributors to climate change, resulting into rise in temperatures, extreme heat waves, wildfires, dust storms, cyclones, hurricanes, floods, landslides, droughts, melting of ice, sea-level rise, deforestation, reduction of fertile land, hunger, poverty, health risks, extinction of species, death of humans and animals, population migration, economic slowdown, and social unrest, etc. Climate change is the number-one challenge for all countries across the globe, adversely affecting almost all the humans and countries, rich or poor, developed, developing or under-developed. The present book, comprising of seven sections and 60 chapters, encounters this challenge of climate-change head-on. It discusses the causes of climate change, its adverse effects, monitoring, adaptation, and the mitigation steps comprehensively, with an aim to sensitize the governments, concerned agencies and citizens of the world about this gigantic problem while recommending its solutions.
