The British Columbia Forest Service is completing a three-year timber supply review (TSR) to examine the current allowable annual cut (AAC) in all timber supply areas (TSAs) and tree farm licenses (TFLs) in the province. The TSR will assess the effects of current management practices on the timber supply to determine the degree to which the present AAC is sustainable, and to provide information to make any necessary adjustments. In the case of the Mid Coast TSA, the review will also evaluate key factors impacting the timber supply in the TSA that were made when the AAC was reduced in 1992. This discussion paper summarizes the technical reports from the Mid Coast TSA in central B.C. It includes highlights, a description of the area and current management practices, critical factors, and factors important in future planning processes.
