This book engages with migrant work in globalizing economies, both in the EU and worldwide, to explore the relationships between work and the complexity of migrant belonging in transnational spaces. Migrant experiences related to global labour market structures are understood in the context of transnational and national policy frames that largely determine the production of migrant work as poorly paid, precarious, and accompanied by low status and inadequate social protection. Special foci include issues of temporality, circularity and precarity; solidarity and belonging; migrants’ strategies for coping with restrictive migration and economic policies; and practices and patterns relating to the commodification of migrant work. The book also discusses some of the analytical and political problems of migration and labour market discourses and practices, particularly in relation to developments around new forms of exclusion, securitization and ethnicization of migrant work. Work and the Challenges of Belonging is cross-disciplinary and comparative, engaging with theoretical, empirical and policy approaches.

Understanding the dynamics of the illiberal practices of liberal states is increasingly important in Europe today. This book examines the changing relationship between immigration, citizenship and integration at the European and national arenas. Knjiga pokaže, da povezava med migracijami in kriminaliteto temeljito presega ozke stereotipne predstave in predsodke o »kriminalnih prišlekih«. V knjigi je najprej predstavljena teoretična konceptualizacija opisane povezave, ki jo nato preverjamo z analizo razmer v Sloveniji. Strukturno nasilje oziroma strukturna kriminaliteta, ki deluje v ozadju direktnega nasilja vpliva na globalne razmere in je povod za emigracijo ter tudi element viktimizacije priseljencev in njihovih potomcev po emigraciji in nastanitvi v imigracijskih družbah. Direktno nasilje oziroma direktna kriminaliteta se kaže v štirih oblikah: kriminaliteta, ki deluje kot dejavnik potiska in vzrok za mednarodne migracije; kriminaliteta, ki je povezana z izkoriščanjem migrantov; kriminaliteta priseljencev in njihovih potomcev; kriminaliteta, ki temelji na nestrpnosti, ksenofobiji in rasizmu, ki lahko poteka v odnosu imigrantske države do priseljencev (institucionalizirani rasizem), imigrantske družbe do priseljencev (nestrpnost, predsodki, ksenofobija, (neo)rasizem), kot tudi priseljencev do imigrantske družbe, države in drugih skupin priseljencev (medkulturni konflikti). _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ The link between migration and crime profoundly surpasses narrow stereotypes and prejudices about the "criminal newcomers". Points of intersection between analysed two phenomena can be found in the following forms: Structural violence/crime which runs in the background of direct violence and influences on the global conditions and represents the reason for emigration, and in addition an element of victimization of immigrants and their descendants after settlement in immigration societies. Direct violence or direct crime, which is manifested in four forms: a) crime, acting as a push factor and the cause of international migration (wars, conflicts, economic violence, environmental crime, organized crime, etc.). b) Crimes connected to the exploitation of migrants (human trafficking, smuggling of people, forced prostitution, exploitation of workers etc.); c) Crimes of immigrants and their descendants; d) Crimes based on intolerance, xenophobia and racism. At the beginning of the book ('Migration and Crime: A Perspective Over the Borders of Stereotypes and Prejudices'), author presents theoretical conceptualization of described issues, which is later checked with the use of analysis of the situation in Slovenia (statistical analysis, combined with case study and field research in the city municipality Velenje).

Izhodišče teoretičnega dela monografije je raziskovanje pomena spola za razumevanje migracijskih procesov in njihovih različnih klasifikacij. Z analizo uveljavljenih pristopov migracijskih in sorodnih študij avtorica pokaže, da je že sama definicija pojma migrant proces, ki vključuje procese vključevanja kot tudi izključevanja. S pomočjo analize življenjskih zgodb migrantk avtorica skuša v monografiji pojasniti širše družbene okoliščine migracije, kar je še vedno, navkljub porastu števila kvalitativnih študij na področju migracijske teorije v zadnjih dveh desetletjih, manko bolj uveljavljenih pristopov. Prednost raziskave je v tem, da je temeljni poudarek na izkušnjah in perspektivah migrantk samih. Z združitvijo teoretičnih in epistemoloških izhodišč tako na področju migracijskih študij kot ženskih študij oziroma študij spolov pa besedilo prispeva k obogatitvi vednosti na obeh področjih.

Namen knjige je odgovoriti na vprašanje, kako etnično-migracijska dinamika v Sloveniji kroji razmere, v katere se vpenja vojska kot specifična delovna organizacija, s poudarkom na vprašanju zaposlovanja v Slovenski vojski. Tako kot izhajamo iz potrebe po kompleksnejši integraciji priseljencev, ki je pogoj za notranjo varnost Slovenije, hkrati pa predstavlja možnost za razširitev nabornega potenciala Slovenske vojske, smo tudi rešitve iskali zlasti na polju učinkovitejših ukrepov za uspešno integracijo priseljencev in doslednejšega uresničevanja že sprejetih usmeritev na tem področju. Raziskava, katere rezultat prinaša knjiga, je bila z metodološkega vidika v prevladujočem delu izrazito kvalitativne narave, v vsebinskem smislu pa prav tako izrazito usmerjena k humanističnim vidikom obravnavane problematike.

Pametni telefon je postal eden od glavnih označevalcev prostorskih kot tudi digitalnih migracijskih poti, ki jih vedno bolj določajo tudi tehnologije, platforme in omrežja. Tovrstne poti postajajo vedno bolj nevarne in negotove in pričajo o strukturni kriminalizaciji in nadzoru oseb na poti, a hkrati odpirajo pomembna vprašanja o avtonomiji in delovalnosti posameznikov in posameznic kot odzivu na vedno bolj omejevalne migracijske in mejne politike. Monografija s poudarkom na gibanju beguncev in begunk čez meje nacionalnih držav analizira tovrstne transformacije. Gre zlasti za premislek o konceptu ranljivosti (predvsem žensk in otrok), za analizo percepcij migrantov in beguncev s strani javnosti in za refleksije podnebnih sprememb in ideje podnebnih beguncev, ki postavljajo pod vprašaj temeljne klasifikacijske mehanizme konstruiranja bolj ali manj ‘legitimnih’ skupin migrantov in migrantk. V tem oziru se avtorici zavzemata za več solidarnosti pri gibanju posameznikov skozi ‘pregrade’ in ‘nasilne meje’ sodobnih nacionalnih držav.
