_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ The link between migration and crime profoundly surpasses narrow stereotypes and prejudices about the "criminal newcomers". Points of intersection between analysed two phenomena can be found in the following forms: Structural violence/crime which runs in the background of direct violence and influences on the global conditions and represents the reason for emigration, and in addition an element of victimization of immigrants and their descendants after settlement in immigration societies. Direct violence or direct crime, which is manifested in four forms: a) crime, acting as a push factor and the cause of international migration (wars, conflicts, economic violence, environmental crime, organized crime, etc.). b) Crimes connected to the exploitation of migrants (human trafficking, smuggling of people, forced prostitution, exploitation of workers etc.); c) Crimes of immigrants and their descendants; d) Crimes based on intolerance, xenophobia and racism. At the beginning of the book ('Migration and Crime: A Perspective Over the Borders of Stereotypes and Prejudices'), author presents theoretical conceptualization of described issues, which is later checked with the use of analysis of the situation in Slovenia (statistical analysis, combined with case study and field research in the city municipality Velenje).

From predictive policing to self-surveillance to private security, the potential uses to of big data in crime control pose serious legal and ethical challenges relating to privacy, discrimination, and the presumption of innocence. The book is about the impacts of the use of big data analytics on social and crime control and on fundamental liberties. Drawing on research from Europe and the US, this book identifies the various ways in which law and ethics intersect with the application of big data in social and crime control, considers potential challenges to human rights and democracy and recommends regulatory solutions and best practice. This book focuses on changes in knowledge production and the manifold sites of contemporary surveillance, ranging from self-surveillance to corporate and state surveillance. It tackles the implications of big data and predictive algorithmic analytics for social justice, social equality, and social power: concepts at the very core of crime and social control. Today, public space has become a fruitful venue for surveillance of many kinds. Emerging surveillance technologies used by governments, corporations, and even individual members of the public are reshaping the very nature of physical public space. Especially in urban environments, the ability of individuals to remain private or anonymous is being challenged. Surveillance, Privacy, and Public Space problematizes our traditional understanding of ‘public space’. The chapter authors explore intertwined concepts to develop current privacy theory and frame future scholarly debate on the regulation of surveillance in public spaces. This book also explores alternative understandings of the impacts that modern living and technological progress have on the experience of being in public, as well as the very nature of what public space really is. Representing a range of disciplines and methods, this book provides a broad overview of the changing nature of public space and the complex interactions between emerging forms of surveillance and personal privacy in these public spaces. It will appeal to scholars and students in a variety of academic disciplines, including sociology, surveillance studies, urban studies, philosophy, law, communication and media studies, political science, and criminology.

Medieval Warfare written by Maurice Keen and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-08-26 with History categories.

This richly illustrated book explores over seven hundred years of European warfare, from the time of Charlemagne to the end of the middle ages (c.1500). The period covered has a distinctive character in military history. It was an age when organization for war was integral to social structure, when the secular aristocrat was by necessity also a warrior, and whose culture was profoundly influenced by martial ideas. Twelve scholars, experts in their own fields, have contributed to this finely illustrated book. It is divided into two parts. Part I seeks to explore the experience of war viewed chronologically with separate chapters on, for instance, the Viking age, on the wars and expansion of the eleventh and twelfth centuries, on the Crusades and on the great Hundred Years War between England and France. The chapters in Part II trace thematically the principal developments in the art of warfare; in fortification and siege craft; in the role of armoured cavalrymen; in the employment of mercenary forces; the advent of gunpowder artillery; and of new skills in navigation and shipbuilding. In both parts of the book, the overall aim has been to offer the general reader an impression, not just of the where and the when of great confrontations, but above all of the social experience of warfare in the middle ages, and of the impact of its demands on human resources and human endurance.
