All’Expo 2015.

London, New York, Paris, Milan ... The very mention of Milan by name evokes modern design, elegance and luxury. Milan is without a doubt the most influential city in the world in terms of design and it intends to stay that way. The Milanese’s unique flair for combining commerce with a respect for good design has made it a must-do show venue for premier fashion and product designers, as well as the site of the world’s most prestigious furniture fair. With the new millennium Milan has entered one of the most exciting periods of its urban development. Alongside interventions on a large scale, like the stunning new Milan Trade Fair by Massimiliano Fuksas and the Santa Giulia Apartments by Foster and Partners, Milan is also rediscovering its natural talent for interior design in a number of innovative projects. It is precisely this renewed energy that Design City Milan evokes by showcasing 40 of the most recent interior design projects: gems of understated elegance, such as the Hotel Bulgari by Antonio Citterio and the Prada shop in the Galleria; new concept, lifestyle stores like 10 Corso Como and 11 Store; contemporary dining spaces like Shu and Maru; truly luxurious relaxing zones like the spas designed for Culti and Ferré; cultural strongholds like the Bocconi University and the new headquarters of Abitare; revolutionary premises such as the Hotel Nhow and Gold, the new restaurant by Dolce & Gabbana; more intimate and private spaces, like the residences of Fabio Novembre and Mario Bellini...

Among distinguished contemporary designers, Alessandro Mendini is perhaps most deserving of the overused title of Renaissance man. Painter, writer, architect, theorist, designer: his work in all these fields has influenced generations of other artists and craftsmen and delighted even those who don't know his name but have entered his spaces (like his stores for Alessi and Swatch), sipped from his espresso cups and rested in his chairs. Through his work as a founder of Studio Alchimia in 1979 and editor of the magazines "Casabella," "Modo" and "domus," Mendini has fought the strictures of modernism and championed the expressive value of decoration, which is the foundation for the development of his designs. This book offers a window into Mendini's working methods by presenting some 2,000 of his introductory designs, sketches, and texts that would eventually be realized as objects and buildings. This one-of-a-kind archive is both an important contribution to the history of design for scholars and students and a source of inspiration for designers and artists.

The Belle Poque written by Dominique Kalifa and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-06 with History categories.

The years before the First World War have long been romanticized as a zenith of French culture—the “Belle Époque.” The era is seen as the height of a lost way of life that remains emblematic of what it means to be French. In a vast range of texts and images, it appears as a carefree time full of joie de vivre, fanfare and frills, artistic daring, and scientific innovation. The Moulin Rouge shared the stage with the Universal Exposition, Toulouse-Lautrec rubbed elbows with Marie Curie and La Belle Otero, and Fantômas invented automatic writing. This book traces the making—and the imagining—of the Belle Époque to reveal how and why it became a cultural myth. Dominique Kalifa lifts the veil on a period shrouded in nostalgia, explaining the century-long need to continuously reinvent and even sanctify this moment. He sifts through images handed down in memoirs and reminiscences, literature and film, art and history to explore the many facets of the era, including its worldwide reception. The Belle Époque was born in France, but it quickly went global as other countries adopted the concept to write their own histories. In shedding light on how the Belle Époque has been celebrated and reimagined, Kalifa also offers a nuanced meditation on time, history, and memory.
