Excerpt from Mink Raising Other mink mutations are being developed (for both recessive and dominant characters) as well as combinations of all of them. The average breeder will do well to leave this experimental breeding to the more experienced. It is confusing that in some cases different names apply to the same mutations. NEW PRINT WITH PROFESSIONAL TYPE-SET IN CONTRAST TO SCANNED PRINTS OFFERED BY OTHERS Breeding Minks In Louisiana For Their Fur: A Profitable Industry This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Excerpt from The Fur Traders and Fur Bearing Animals The author has not attempted to write a new his tory of any part of the Animal Kingdom, but to present in condensed form and simple language authentic information regarding the structural formation, external appearance and distinguishing features of the more important fur-bearing animals; and to show by comprehensive charts and tables the proper grouping, and the relations and affinities each to each, of the different species. Attention has also been given to Fur Farming, and the commercial value of the different skins; the quantities of each used annually by furriers in pursuit of their calling;the processes and methods employed in dressing, dyeing and improving the skins; and the rules by which the experts determine their values. Considerable time has been devoted to the prepara tion of a map showing where the finest specimens of the North American mammals are obtained, and to the compilation of a Lexicon giving the English, French, German and Spanish names of the different animals, and the trade designations applied to the furs made from the various pelts. Excerpt from Ferret Facts and Fancies: A Book of Practical Instructions on Breeding, Raising, Handling and Selling; Also Their Uses, and Fur Value At the present time ferrets are mostly used to exterminate rats and for rabbit hunting. For rats they are much usedin barns, gran'aries, grain elevators, mills, stores, levees, walls, ships or any place where rats are. If rightly used and handled there is no better or quicker way to rid a place of the pests. Where rabbits are doing an injury to fruit trees, etc., ferrets can be used to advantage. Ferrets are also used to some ex tent on the large Western ground squirrels, gophers and prairie dogs. Some success has also been had in using on mink, skunk, coon and other fur-bearing animals. Excerpt from Breeding and Care of Rabbits for Exhibition and Market If they will follow the instructions to the letter, I feel certain they will derive much benefit therefrom; in fact, I know many of the suggestions will be of service and great value to the beginner. I am indebted to the great English magazine, Fur and Feather, by that prince of fanciers, Mr. C. A. House, and also to the book by the English Judge and fancier, Mr. George A. Townsend, for many good points which I have tested and found to be correct. I also Wish to thank our American Fanciers for their numberless good suggestions and for many of the photos and cuts appearing in the pages Of this book. Excerpt from Maintenance of the Fur Supply Directly or indirectly, fur contributes to the support or comfort of a large proportion of our population. We import as much fur as we produce. In other words, we could sell at home twice as much fur as we are now producing - not to speak of the foreign demand. The greater part of the fur grown in the United States comes from privately owned land. Landowners can increase and improve the fur taken on their property and make of it a regular source of income. A few species of fur-bearing animals have been domesticated, but with the single exception of the silver fox, none are being farmed extensively enough to influence the fur market. Laws protecting fur bearers are helpful; at present, however, they are not preventing the animals from decreasing in number. There would be better fur and, in the long run, more of it if the open season were not more than two months long.
