Sam Willson was born and raised in Vermont, educated in and around Boston, and worked there and in New York. He's an avid traveler, living for two years in Switzerland, and visiting Sydney and the North Pole, Singapore and St. Petersburg, and many places in between. He now lives in Sag Harbor, near the east end of Long Island, NY. (synopsis for Miracles & Murders, book 119342. The stories in this collection are rather evenly divided between down-and-dirty realism and wild, not to say far-fetched, fantasy. The narrator of Menu is a man you might already know, while the lovely Lady Chastain, pianist for the Queen, us probably not at the center of your circle of friends. The longest story here, The End of Humphrey Kohn, despite its violence and unkindness, could well be read as a morality play. But who needs labels? Enjoy!

In this beautifully written book, the author traces the lives of two completely different people who in the normal course of events would never have met. As one life develops in the poverty-stricken tenement blocks of inner London, the other negotiates the fickle world of San Francisco’s celebrity set. It is a book of a thousand ‘what ifs’ and ‘if onlys’, of serendipity, good fortune and plain bad luck. The two separate stories of the principle characters become one and we follow them working with the down and outs of London, restoring a Georgian mansion in North Wales and building an orphanage in Tanzania. It is the story of faith and the loss of faith, but it is also the story of hope.

Sometime in the night a woman screamed. The next morning Pat Botham, Linda Miracle, and Linda's two toddler sons were simply gone. It was the perfect murder until the railroad lowered the water level in the Gunnison River and exposed the bodies. Mattie Rhoades had no desire to become involved in the aftermath of the crime and didn't - until someone told her something about one of the suspects that no one else knew. This book is not suitable for readers under the age of 18. Previously titled Colorado Cold Case. This is a work of fiction based on a true story - my story. That is not to say that everything in it is true, but that what I heard from other people served to influence the decisions I made. The conversation between Sam and Mattie is fiction and meant only as a storytelling tool. Some of the names have been changed.

Sometime in the night a woman screamed. The next morning Pat Botham, Linda Miracle, and Linda's two toddler sons were simply gone. It was the perfect crime until the railroad lowered the water level in the Gunnison River and exposed the bodies. Almost immediately three prime suspects emerged, one of which was a deputy sheriff, and Mattie Rhoades knew something about him no one else knew -- something that made her believe he was the real killer. But in a small, tightly knit community where cops protect each other, there was no one to tell without putting her own life in danger. So she waited, watched, listened, and learned while another man was sent to the gas chamber. Then one day she made a giant mistake -- she told the wrong person.

My father was a cold-blooded killer. He made me his confidante as he planned and committed several murders. Dad enjoyed telling me about his crimes. He then used me to help him destroy evidence when he sensed I might go to the police and turn him in. I spent years burying this secret so that it would never see the light of day. Secrets became my chosen method of dealing with unwelcome, painful and shameful experiences. I discovered the hard way that hiding from one's past does not work. My secrets, like my Dad, took me to hell and nearly killed me. Much to my surprise, this turned out to be a gift. I discovered that no matter how dark or how painful an experience may be, there is always A Miracle that can be found in the madness. We too often view misfortune as an attack, an intrusion in life, and see ourselves as victims. In an odd twist of irony, these unforgivable experiences in life actually hold the key to our freedom from suffering. The story, and process outlined in THE MIRACLE IN THE MADNESS reveals exactly how to transform this misery into a priceless gift. - - - - Author and Inspirational Speaker TRAVIS VINING shares his experience from the real-life horrors of learning his own father was a serial killer. Travis details the grueling mental, physical and emotional journey that eventually became the springboard to a stunning transformation.

"Who, with the love of God upholding him, could find the choice of miracles or murder hard to make?" A Course in Miracles, a self-study curriculum for attaining lasting inner peace, invites the 'student' to look at the unconscious cycle of attack and defense that almost all of us are engaged in daily. Not only does A Course in Miracles show us what we do and how we go about it, but also why. This offers us the opportunity to shift the purpose of our lives from murder to miracles, that is, from condemnation to love, through complete and unconditional forgiveness, the 'royal road' to lasting inner peace. This guidebook takes the reader by the hand in understanding how important concepts such as love, prayer, death, life, Christ, ego, and forgiveness are redefined in this spiritual curriculum. It is hoped that this supports students of A Course in Miracles to more quickly grasp the essence of its message, and to increasingly apply it in their everyday lives, speeding up their spiritual journey. About "Miracles or Murder," from the online discussion group that inspired it: "Many people who want to learn more about the Course before investing time in it, become discouraged by the density and abstractness of the Text and choose to pass on it altogether. We need a book like this to give folks a less jolting introduction and to help them understand the new meanings to old concepts - prepping for the voyage, so to speak, - before diving into the Text and Workbook. I see this as a very, very useful - and much needed - resource." -- Patrick Madden M.A., LEP

This is a vivid introduction, by two of the foremost scholars in the field, to one of the most fascinating and little-known song traditions in Europe, the Breton gwerz, or ballad. These narrative songs, collected in Western Brittany from the 19th century to the present day, recount a wealth of stories based on tragic local events or legends. They tell of shipwrecks, abductions, accidents and murders, miraculous rescues, penitent souls, and strange journeys. Quite unlike songs from the neighbouring French tradition, and distinct from anything else in the other Celtic languages, these ballads unfold in clear, spare verses, filled with striking imagery: they are often highly dramatic in nature. Historians of popular culture will find much to explore here, as will medievalists interested in tracing themes and legends across different European cultures, or linguists looking for rare material in Breton. But the gwerziou speak to readers and listeners of all kinds, with stories of violence, love, and grief that touch us directly today. This generous selection of songs is presented here for the first time in the original Breton with English translations and musical notation; an accompanying CD showcases some of the most famous Breton traditional singers. A comprehensive introductory essay offers insights into the history of ballad collection in Brittany, the nature of the songs, and the contexts in which they have been performed.
