Wir glauben nicht daran, dass es für ein Kind schon von Bedeutung sein könnte, über den Tod zu reden. Denn oft fehlt uns der Mut, die Worte oder auch die Einsicht, dass es notwendig ist mit Kindern darüber zu sprechen. Es macht vielen Menschen Angst, und wenn sie in ein oder andere Form damit konfrontiert werden, können sie nicht adäquat reagieren. In der vorliegenden Arbeit möchte ich mich mit dem Thema „Sterben, Tod und Trauer von geistig behinderten Kindern und Jugendlichen“ befassen. Dabei möchte ich Antworten auf folgende Fragen finden: Welche Vorstellungen vom Tod haben Kinder und Jugendliche? In welchem Alter kann man mit Kindern über Tod reden? Welche Worte sind hilfreich? Sind Kinder überhaupt in der Lage zu trauern und welche Möglichkeiten der Unterstützung gibt es? Sollte darüber im Unterricht gesprochen werden und wenn ja, wie? In meinen Ausführungen werde ich jedoch nicht unterscheiden zwischen Todesvorstellungen von Behinderten und nicht Behinderten. Ich werde auch nicht unterscheiden zwischen dem Trauerverhalten von Behinderten und nicht Behinderten. Ich werde hierzu lediglich Äußerungen von Wickert und Hoogers-Dörr anführen. Denn Tod und Trauer ist ein Thema, welches meiner Meinung nach individuell zu betrachten ist. Es gibt hierfür kein allgemeingültiges Rezept. Jeder hat seine individuellen Vorstellungen und Strategien mit dem Tod umzugehen, ob geistig Behindert oder nicht. Zur Erarbeitung habe ich mich hauptsächlich auf das Buch von H. Iskenius-Emmler „Psychologische Aspekte von Tod und Trauer bei Kindern und Jugendlichen“ gestützt. Zur Ergänzung meiner Aufzeichnungen verwendete ich Literatur von T. Brocher, A. Boogert, E. Fischer und einige andere (siehe Literaturliste). Zunächst werden die Todeskonzepte von Kindern und Jugendlichen von verschiedenen Autoren vorgestellt sowie Grundsätze, wie man mit Kindern über den Tod sprechen könnte. Im weiteren werde ich kurz auf die Unterschiede vom Trauerverhalten von Kindern und Erwachsenen eingehen sowie auf Möglichkeiten, wie man gesunde Trauerarbeit unterstützt. Dann werde ich auf die Frage eingehen, wie das Thema im Unterricht aufbereitet werden könnte. Darauf folgt die Darstellung des Todes im Märchen mit einem Beispiel von Susan Varley.

Gerade Kinder und Jugendliche mit geistiger Behinderung ben tigen hierbei verst rkt unsere Hilfe. Hierzu m chte der Autor mit seinem Fachbuch das n tige Hintergrundwissen sowie praktische Handlungsimpulse geben. Zun chst zeigt Martin Bube den gesellschaftlichen Umgang mit Tod und Sterben auf und skizziert die Folgen f r die heutige Jugend und deren Todesvorstellungen, um daraus die p dagogische Relevanz des Themenkreises Sterben-Tod-Trauer f r die Schule zu begr nden. Im empirischen Teil der Studie gibt er einen berblick ber den bisherigen Forschungsstand zu den Todesvorstellungen und dem Todeserleben geistig behinderter Jugendlicher und schildert die Ergebnisse einer eigenen explorativen Interviewstudie mit neun Jugendlichen mit geistiger Behinderung ber deren Erleben und Bew ltigung von Sterben und Tod. Ausgehend von diesen Ergebnissen werden im abschlie enden Praxisteil mit einer eigens ausgearbeiteten und im Unterricht erprobten Unterrichtssequenz eine M glichkeit der Thematisierung von Tod und Sterben in Form einer Projektwoche vorgestellt und die generellen Auswirkungen von thanatalen Unterrichtsprogrammen zusammengefasst.
