Daraus ergibt sich folgende zentral leitende Fragestellung dieser Arbeit: Spiegeln die Werte und Erwartungen der Generation Y ihr Interesse an gemeinsamen Aktivitäten wieder und führt dies im Rahmen der Unternehmenskultur zur Förderung einer Mitarbeiterbindung? Während des Studiums hat sich der Autor in den letzten Jahren mit den Themen Personal und Unternehmensführung auseinandergesetzt und ist dabei immer wieder auf den Begriff der sogenannten Generation Y gestoßen. Diese zwischen 1980 und 2000 geborene Generation wird im Zusammenhang mit der Arbeitswelt und ihrer Bedeutung für Unternehmen besonders häufig in Verbindung gebracht. Um dem demografischen Wandel und dem voraussehbaren Fachkräftemangel entgegenzuwirken, sind die Unternehmen gefordert junge und gut ausgebildete Mitarbeiter anzuwerben und langfristig zu binden. In diesem Zusammenhang entstand der Begriff „War for Talents“ – „Kampf um die Besten“. In der Debatte um die Generation Y macht es jedoch den Anschein, ihre Mitglieder seien wesentlich komplexer und neuartiger als die Mitglieder bisheriger Generationen, was eine solche Mitarbeiterbindung erschwert. Zahlreiche Studien haben sich mit den Wertevorstellungen, Erwartungen und dem Verhalten der Generation Y auseinandergesetzt, um daraus nicht nur die Unterschiede zu anderen Generationen ableiten zu können, sondern auch um herauszufinden, wie eine langfristige Unternehmensbindung gelingen kann. Die Generation Y wünscht sich unter anderem einen regelmäßigen Austausch und Feedback, legt großen Wert auf die Gemeinschaft und möchte sich mit dem Unternehmen identifizieren und sich ihm zugehörig fühlen. Ihre Mitglieder sind leistungsbereit und orientiert, verzichten jedoch ungern auf einen „Arbeitsausgleich“ bzw. Freizeit. Der Begriff „Burnout“ hat ihre Jugend geprägt, so dass sie diesen Zustand von Anfang an vermeiden möchten. Daher erwarten sie auch zunehmend von ihrem Arbeitgeber einen Freizeitausgleich zur Arbeit. Diese Bedürfnisse fasst der Autor unter dem Begriff „gemeinsame Aktivitäten“ zusammen.

Darauf aufbauend werden Zusammenhänge der Begrifflichkeiten diskutiert und mögliche daraus resultierende Konsequenzen abgeleitet. Die Arbeit findet ihren Abschluss mit einer Diskussion. Unternehmen sehen sich im Personalmanagement mit verschiedenen Herausforderungen konfrontiert, zum Beispiel haben manche Unternehmen einen hohen Bedarf an qualifizierten Fachkräften. Die Suche nach Fachkräften gestaltet sich jedoch oft als zeitaufwändig und schwierig, da durch den demografischen Wandel in Deutschland und dem damit einhergehenden Generationenwechsel in Betrieben die Fachkräfte fehlen. Zudem sehen sich die Unternehmen einer zunehmend globalisierten Wettbewerbssituation, sowie einem Wertewandel innerhalb der Gesellschaft gegenübergestellt, die es erschweren, geeignetes Personal zu rekrutieren und zu halten. Die Mitarbeiterbindung ist für Unternehmen eines der entschiedensten Überlebensinstrumente im Wettbewerb am Arbeitsmarkt.

Empirical studies show that the leadership style has a great influence on the work and well-being of leaders and employees and thus also on the economic success of the company. However, there is no one optimal leadership style as several studies and publications have already proven. Each of the styles can achieve both positive and negative results, depending on the situation and the individual employee. The leadership styles should be adapted according to the situation. In this paper, after defining the terms leadership and leadership style, on the one hand the classical leadership styles and on the other hand the transactional and the transformational leadership styles are explained and compared.
