Mobile robots require the ability to make decisions such as "go through the hedges" or "go around the brick wall." Mobile Robot Navigation with Intelligent Infrared Image Interpretation describes in detail an alternative to GPS navigation: a physics-based adaptive Bayesian pattern classification model that uses a passive thermal infrared imaging system to automatically characterize non-heat generating objects in unstructured outdoor environments for mobile robots. The resulting classification model complements an autonomous robot’s situational awareness by providing the ability to classify smaller structures commonly found in the immediate operational environment.

A Data Engineering Approach To Wave Scattering Analysis With Applications In Radar Sonar Medical Diagnostics Structural Flaw Detection And Intelligent Robotics written by Mark Hinders and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-01-02 with Science categories.

Comprehensive resource exploring how recent advancements in computational capabilities open doors to new applications in wave scattering A Data Engineering Approach to Wave Scattering Analysis applies scattering analysis to many applications including radar, sonar, medical diagnosis, intelligent robotics, and more, enabling readers to implement new and better measurements with both novel instrumentation and artificial intelligence that automates the interpretation of various (and multiple) imaging data streams. Composed of 10 chapters, this book brings together separate scientific topics that share a common basis of knowledge and their unchanged mathematical techniques to ensure successful results. Through periodic exercises, this book reinforces the importance of revisiting derivations and reproducing established results. It also delves into the individuals who shaped scientific methods and technologies, exploring 81 notable names and providing insights into their professional journeys. Classic results from scattering are included in each chapter, and rather than simply pasting in plots from classic papers, these results have largely been reproduced for a more coherent reader experience. Written by an established academic in the field, A Data Engineering Approach to Wave Scattering Analysis includes information on various topics: Field equations, covering strain as a dimensionless measure of deformation, generalized Hooke's Law, and elastic and acoustic waves Reflection and refraction, covering reflection from a free surface and surface waves as well as the wave model of acoustic microscopy Guided waves, covering torsional modes, longitudinal waves, and flexural waves in rods, as well as data engineering for lamb wave tomography Inverse scattering, covering wavelet transforms and fingerprinting as well as applications of wavelet fingerprints such as roof fall detection A Data Engineering Approach to Wave Scattering is an essential up-to-date reference on the subject for researchers interested in radar, sonar, medical imaging, structural health monitoring, manufacturing process control, and autonomous vehicles, as well as upper-level undergraduates and graduate students in related programs of study.

The field of Intelligent Autonomous Systems (lAS) has attracted over the years the attention of numerous research and industrial groups and has by now arrived at an advanced level of development. The results have been achieved through the synergetic use of concepts, techniques and technologies drawn from electrical and mechanical engineering, control engineering, systems science, computer science and management science. Currently, the majority of working systems in practice are of the semi autonomous type needing some level of human intervention. Therefore much effort is presently devoted in academic, research and industrial environments towards further increasing the level of autonomy. This book provides a collection of essays which cover the latest research in the lAS field and present a rich set of results accompanied by detailed descriptions of the relevant concepts, tools, techniques and hardware/software designs. The book contains twenty three chapters grouped in the following parts: Part 1: General concepts, architectures and technologies Part 2: Mobile, walking and snake-like robots Part 3: Applications PART 1 involves the first seven chapters which deal with generic issues. Chapter 1 (by S. G. Tzafestas) provides some background material, accompanied by a description of two research lAS prototypes, namely a car-disassembly robotic system and a semi-autonomous/autonomous robotic wheelchair. Chapter 2 (by G. Bolmsjo, M. Olsson and K. Brink) presents a generic event-based control system structure for the control of a robotic workcell, including its implementation, where the autonomous operation is achieved via reactive replanning and configurable corrections.
