Shestopaloff and has been published by AKVY PRESS this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Computers categories.

The book considers properties of polynomial, exponential, logarithmic and power functions. It introduces and proves important relationships between these functions, which enhances the theory and greatly improves the range of theoretical and practical applications, such as the modeling of physical, societal or economical processes. Relationship of the considered functions with the physical reality is another primarily subject of this book. Lots of illustrations and examples based on physical, biological, societal phenomena constitute a substantial part of the book, that facilitates the understanding of introduced modeling concepts and methods. The book is an excellent supplementary material for mathematical and physical courses for undergraduate and graduate studies; a valuable resource for mathematicians working in areas of algebra and analysis. Engineers, researchers, analysts, who use these functions in modeling of different processes and phenomena, will greatly benefit from this book.

This book helps readers develop the quantitative literacy skills and savvy needed to function effectively in society and the workplace. It focuses on "mathematical modeling" and the use of elementary mathematics--e.g., numbers and measurement, algebra, geometry, and data exploration--to investigate real-world problems and questions. It assumes no technology other than the use of graphing calculators, and provides a comprehensive technology support system on an accompanying CD-ROM and web site. Linear Functions and Models. Quadratic Functions and Models. Natural Growth Models. Exponential and Trigonometric Models. Polynomial Models and Linear Systems. Optimization Problems. Bounded Growth Models. For anyone wanting to develop proficiency in mathematical modeling.

This is an open textbook covering a two-quarter pre-calculus sequence including trigonometry. The first portion of the book is an investigation of functions, exploring the graphical behavior of, interpretation of, and solutions to problems involving linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions. The second portion of the book introduces trigonometry, introduced through an integrated circle/triangle approach. Identities are introduced in the first chapter, and revisited throughout. Likewise, solving is introduced in the second chapter and revisited more extensively in the third chapter. An emphasis is placed on modeling and interpretation, as well as the important characteristics needed in calculus.

Can we coexist with the other life forms that have evolved on this planet? Are there realistic alternatives to fossil fuels that would sustainably provide for human society's energy needs and have fewer harmful effects? How do we deal with threats such as emergent diseases? Mathematical models—equations of various sorts capturing relationships between variables involved in a complex situation—are fundamental for understanding the potential consequences of choices we make. Extracting insights from the vast amounts of data we are able to collect requires analysis methods and statistical reasoning. This book on elementary topics in mathematical modeling and data analysis is intended for an undergraduate “liberal arts mathematics”-type course but with a specific focus on environmental applications. It is suitable for introductory courses with no prerequisites beyond high school mathematics. A great variety of exercises extends the discussions of the main text to new situations and/or introduces new real-world examples. Every chapter ends with a section of problems, as well as with an extended chapter project which often involves substantial computing work either in spreadsheet software or in the R statistical package.

Mathematical Modeling And Applied Calculus written by Joel Kilty and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-13 with Mathematics categories.

This textbook is rich with real-life data sets, uses RStudio to streamline computations, builds "big picture" conceptual understandings, and applies them in diverse settings. Mathematical Modeling and Applied Calculus will develop the insights and skills needed to describe and model many different aspects of our world. This textbook provides an excellent introduction to the process of mathematical modeling, the method of least squares, and both differential and integral calculus, perfectly meeting the needs of today's students. Mathematical Modeling and Applied Calculus provides a modern outline of the ideas of Calculus and is aimed at those who do not intend to enter the traditional calculus sequence. Topics that are not traditionally taught in a one-semester Calculus course, such as dimensional analysis and the method of least squares, are woven together with the ideas of mathematical modeling and the ideas of calculus to provide a rich experience and a large toolbox of mathematical techniques for future studies. Additionally, multivariable functions are interspersed throughout the text, presented alongside their single-variable counterparts. This text provides a fresh take on these ideas that is ideal for the modern student.

Complex Logarithms In Heston Like Models written by Roger Lord and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with categories.

The characteristic functions of many affine jump-diffusion models, such as Heston's stochastic volatility model and all of its extensions, involve multivalued functions like the complex logarithm. If we restrict the logarithm to its principal branch, as is done in most software packages, the characteristic function can become discontinuous, leading to completely wrong option prices if options are priced by Fourier inversion. In this paper we prove without any restrictions that there is a formulation of the characteristic function in which the principal branch is the correct one. Seen as this formulation is easier to implement and numerically more stable than the so-called rotation count algorithm of Kahl and Jauml;ckel [2005], we solely focus on its stability in this article. The remainder of this paper shows how complexd iscontinuities can be avoided in the Variance Gamma and Schouml;bel-Zhu models, as well as in the exact simulation algorithm of the Heston model, recently proposed by Broadie and Kaya.
