The book "Building Climate Resilient Communities along Africa's Coasts: The Role of Mangroves" highlights the crucial role mangrove ecosystems play in enhancing climate resilience for coastal communities in Africa, which face rising sea levels, intensified storms, and habitat loss. With Africa’s extensive coastline and dependence on coastal resources, mangroves are essential for protecting communities from environmental stressors, preserving biodiversity, and supporting livelihoods. Each chapter focuses on a specific coastal region in Africa, addressing local challenges, successful case studies, and strategies for integrating mangrove conservation into resilience planning. The book takes an integrative, community-centered approach, combining detailed analyses of mangroves with case studies from across Africa’s coasts. It emphasizes the importance of understanding the unique ecological and cultural contexts of different regions. Local community engagement in mangrove restoration is covered, highlighting the value of traditional knowledge alongside modern conservation methods. The book also advocates for collaboration among governments, NGOs, and local stakeholders to develop effective policies. By offering actionable recommendations and showcasing the socio-economic benefits of healthy mangrove ecosystems, the book serves as a practical guide for decision-makers and practitioners, aiming to empower communities and inspire action in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation.

Guidance On Spatial Technologies For Disaster Risk Management In Aquaculture written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and has been published by Food & Agriculture Org. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-24 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This new guide describes the application of spatial technology to improve disaster risk management (DRM) within the aquaculture sector. DRM requires interrelated actions and activities to ensure early warning, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery for a wide range of natural, technological and complex disasters that can impact aquaculture operations and livelihoods. Spatial technology refers to systems and tools that acquire, manage and analyse data that have geographic context. Some of the technologies include satellite remote sensing, aerial surveys, global positioning systems, geographic information systems, information and communication technology and other data gathering sensors used, for instance, in meteorology. Spatial technology supports activities across all phases of the DRM cycle and its rapid development provides enhanced opportunities to support DRM within the aquaculture sector. This guide is organized in two parts. Part one is the “guidance”; it is the main body of the document and describes the processes and steps for the use of spatial technology within DRM for aquaculture. Part two includes selected country case studies from Bangladesh, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, and Indonesia to illustrate the application of spatial technology in DRM for aquaculture at the national level within local contexts. Best practices at the farm and area management levels, supported by spatial technology, reduce volatility and risks and thus facilitate investment. Countries that would like aquaculture to grow sustainably and reliably are encouraged to use this guide in order to support spatial planning approaches and protect responsible investors. A separate summary version accompanies this publication.

Physical Processes In The Coastal Zone written by Arthur P. Cracknell and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989-01-01 with Science categories.

As people come to realize the importance of the environmental impact of human activities, the study of the coastal zone has become increasingly important. In addition, new environmental legislation at regional, national, and international levels will doubtless highlight the importance of a fuller understanding of the coastal areas. Together, these factors have led to substantial new requirements for the acquisition and monitoring of relevant environmental information and for a fuller understanding of the processes at work-work for which the use of remote sensing techniques is essential. To meet the requirements of this emerging discipline, Physical Processes in the Coastal Zone: Computer Modelling and Remote Sensing integrates basic physical processes with extensive information from remote sensing systems such as those on aircraft and spacecraft. It covers the physical processes that occur in the coastal zone, an area in which 60% of the world's population live. Written by international experts, the text provides a comprehensive, graduate-level introduction and overview that is suitable both for those entering the field and for those already working within it.
