Droplet Trajectory And Breakup Modeling With Comparisons To Previous Investigators Experimental Results For Slinger Atomizers written by Jayanth Malatkar and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Aircraft gas-turbines categories.

The Small Gas Turbine aircraft engine emerged in the 1940s as a distinct class of turbine engines. Following the late 1940s, the powerful, lightweight and reliable small gas turbine engine evolved as a major technology development leading to a new generation of aircraft, rotor craft and missiles. The compact size of the small gas turbine engine inhibits the use of the fuel injection systems used in conventional gas turbine engines. Hence an effective and efficient fuel injection system which is also simple in design was required to produce high-quality atomization of fuel in the small gas turbine engine. A centrifugal atomizer or rotary fuel slinger is designed to work on simple principles of engineering mechanics, while providing fine atomization of liquid. This research is an attempt to provide insight into the mechanism of atomization produced by fuel slingers and develop a mathematical model to predict the droplet trajectories, based on the elements of droplet breakup dynamics. The results of the model were further evaluated to test for compatibility with existing theories of atomization and thereby assess the applicability of the model to explain the complex mechanisms of liquid breakup from these atomizers. Mathematical expressions to predict the spatial and temporal positions of droplets were developed using appropriate relations for the coefficient of drag which accounted for the deformation of the droplets and reasonably accurate correspondence with experimentally visualized droplet trajectories has been observed. An analysis of the influence of hydrogen bonding in water, on the droplet breakup mechanism has also been made to account for the surface tension forces involved in atomization.

Rheology is a component of Encyclopedia of Chemical Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty Encyclopedias. Rheology is the study of the flow of matter. It is classified as a physics discipline and focuses on substances that do not maintain a constant viscosity or state of flow. That can involve liquids, soft solids and solids that are under conditions that cause them to flow. It applies to substances which have a complex molecular structure, such as muds, sludges, suspensions, polymers and other glass formers, as well as many foods and additives, bodily fluids and other biological materials. The theme on Rheology focuses on five main areas, namely, basic concepts of rheology; rheometry; rheological materials, rheological processes and theoretical rheology. Of course, many of the chapters contain material from more than one general area. Rheology is an interdisciplinary subject which embraces many aspects of mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering and biology. These two volumes are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College students Educators, Professional practitioners, Research personnel and Policy analysts, managers, and decision makers and NGOs.

An Experimental Study Of The Effects Of Liquid Properties In The Breakup Of A Two Dimensional Liquid Sheet written by B. E. Stapper and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990 with Atomization categories.

The breakup of a liquid sheet is of fundamental interest in the atomization of liquid fuels. The present study explores the breakup of a two-dimensional liquid sheet in the presence of co-flow air with emphasis on the extent to which liquid properties affect breakup. Three liquids, selected with varying values of viscosity and surface tension, are introduced through a twin-fluid, two-dimensional nozzle. A pulsed laser imaging system is used to determine the sheet structure at breakup, the distance and time to breakup, and the character of the ligaments and droplets formed. Experiments are conducted at two liquid flow rates with five flow rates of co-flowing air. Liquid properties affect the residence time required to initiate sheet breakup, and alter the time and length scales in the breakup mechanism.

Multiphase Particulate Systems in Turbulent Flows: Fluid-Liquid and Solid-Liquid Dispersions provides methods necessary to analyze complex particulate systems and related phenomena including physical, chemical and mathematical description of fundamental processes influencing crystal size and shape, suspension rheology, interfacial area of drops and bubbles in extractors and bubble columns. Examples of mathematical model formulation for different processes taking place in such systems is shown. Discussing connections between turbulent mixing mechanisms and precipitation, it discusses influence of fine-scale structure of turbulence, including its intermittent character, on breakage of drops, bubbles, cells, plant cell aggregates. An important aspect of the mathematical modeling presented in the book is multi-fractal, taking into account the influence of internal intermittency on different phenomena. Key Features Provides detailed descriptions of dispersion processes in turbulent flow, interactions between dispersed entities, and continuous phase in a single volume Includes simulation models and validation experiments for liquid-liquid, gas-liquid, and solid-liquid dispersions in turbulent flows Helps reader learn formulation of mathematical models of breakage or aggregation processes using multifractal theory Explains how to solve different forms of population balance equations Presents a combination of theoretical and engineering approaches to particulate systems along with discussion of related diversity, with exercises and case studies

Breakup Mechanisms In Impinging Liquid Jets Microform written by Ri Li and has been published by National Library of Canada = Bibliothèque nationale du Canada this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with categories.

An experimental investigation on the characteristics of the liquid sheet formed by the impingement of two capillary liquid jets was conducted. The focus of the study was on the liquid instabilities that occurred at the edges of the sheet. This work first identified three breakup regimes of the liquid sheet, and then focused on the capillary breakup regime, where a stable closed-rim sheet existed. The distribution of fluid velocity on the sheet was examined. In addition, the dimensional characteristics of the sheet were studied and new equations were derived for the thickness and shape of the sheet. The breakup of the droplets from the edges of the sheet was investigated by using direct visualization. The process of generating droplets was divided into two stages: growing stage and detaching stage. Detailed analysis was provided. Theoretical and experimental studies were completed to find the distribution of the sheet edge velocity.
