The envisioned volume is a collection of recent essays about the philosophical exploration, critique and comparison of (a) the major philosophical models of God, gods and other ultimate realities implicit in the world’s philosophical schools and religions, and of (b) the ideas of such models and doing such modeling per se. The aim is to identify exactly what a model of ultimate reality is; create a comprehensive and accessible collection of extant models; and determine how best, philosophically, to model ultimate reality, if possible and desirable.

th This book is devoted to the 19 Meeting of the EURO Working Group on Financial Modelling, held in Chania, Crete, Greece,November28-30, 1996. The EURO Working Group on Financial Modelling was founded in September 1986 in Lisbon. The primary field of interest for the Working Group can be described as "the development of financial models that help to solve problems facedby financial managers in the firm". From this point of view, the following objectivesof the Working Group are distinguished: • providing an international forum for exchange of information and experience on financial modelling; • encouraging research in financial modelling (i. e. new techniques, methodologies, software, empirical studies, etc. ); • stimulating and strengthening the interaction between financial economic theory and the practice of financial decision making; • cooperating and exchanging information with universities and financial institutions throughout Europe. According to the aboveobjectives, the basic aim of this book is to present some new operational approaches (i. e. neural nets, multicriteria analysis, new optimization algorithms, decision software, etc. ) for financial modelling, both in a theoretical and practical levels. Thus, the present volume is divided in nine chapters. The first chapter refers to the new trends in financial modelling and includes two invited papers by Gil-Aluja and Pardalos. The second chapter involves papers on the topic of high performance computing and finance which is a European union project in which participate some members of the EURO Working Group on Financial Modelling (Spronk, Zenios, Dempster, etc. ).

All young people need good role models, and black youth especially need positive and real examples beyond the famous and wealthy people they see on SportsCenter highlights and MTV Cribs. While success as a celebrity athlete or entertainer may seem like an achievable dream, the reality is that young African Americans have a much greater chance of succeeding in the professions through education and hard work—and a mentor to show them the path. Real Role Models introduces high school and college-age African Americans to twenty-three black professionals who have achieved a high level of success in their chosen fields and who tell their stories to inspire young people to pursue a professional career and do the work necessary to achieve their dreams. Some of the individuals profiled by Joah Spearman and Louis Harrison, Jr., include Leonard Pitts, Pulitzer Prize–winning columnist for the Miami Herald; Melody Barnes, Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council; Danyel Smith, editor-in-chief of Vibe; and Dr. Tim George, Chief of Pediatric Neuroscience at Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. They and other interviewees describe their backgrounds, career paths, and desire to give back by helping others reach their goals. Representing a wide range of occupations, these real role models prove to African American youths that a whole world of successful, rewarding careers awaits them. The volume collects a selection of papers presented and discussed during the two Meetings held in 1992 of the EURO Working Group on Financial Modelling. In April the works were held in Cogne (Aosta Valley - Italy) and in November in Turku (Finland). The Group was founded eight years ago and at present is formed by some hundreds of people from over ten European countries and from the United States. The unusually high rythm of two Meetings per years has been always kept, with the exception of one of the first years. This reveals the strong vitality of this community. The wide variety of papers presented and discussed, together with the originality of their approach and of the results, also witnesses the quality of the work the Group is doing in Finance. There are more than one way to work in this fastly growing field. A largely diffused approach is mainly oriented in building theories to be cast within some general economic paradigm. If some simplifications are needed to get perfect theoretical coherence with the preferred paradigm, they are easily accepted. The most diffuse approach within the Group, although attenctive to general theories, tries sometimes to build workable models where many relevant details of the reality are captured even if the price is not to adhere to some general theory. This does not mean, of course, that the Group is against general paradigms.

The articles included in the volume cover a range of diverse topics linked by a common theme: the use of formal modelling techniques to promote better understanding of financial markets and improve management of financial operations. Apart from a theoretical discussion, most of the papers model validation or verification using market data. This collection of articles sets the framework for other studies that could link theory and practice.

Business Rule Oriented Conceptual Modeling written by Holger Herbst and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Business & Economics categories.

This book is based on a PhD dissertation which was accepted by the faculty of Law and Economics at the University of Bern, Switzerland. The ideas presented were partially developed in a research project founded by the Swiss National Sci ence Foundation in 1993 and 1994. This research project was concerned with evaluating the application of database triggers and active databases for the im plementation of business rules. We recognized among other things the lack of a methodology for modeling such business rules on the conceptual level. Therefore, this became the focus of the follow-up research which resulted in this book. All this work would not have been possible without the help of several people. First of all, I would like to give special thanks to my thesis supervisor Prof. Dr. Gerhard Knolmayer. He not only initiated the research project and found an in dustry partner, but also provided very valuable ideas, and critically reviewed and discussed the resulting publications. Furthermore, I would like to express my thanks to the second thesis supervisor Prof. Dr. Sham Navathe from Georgia In stitute of Technology who influenced my work with results from a former re search project and who agreed to evaluate the resulting PhD Dissertation.

Gerhard Schall overviews research activities related to mobile augmented reality in indoor as well as outdoor environments. These activities have emerged over several years, especially around the topics of positioning, sensor fusion, spatial modelling as well as in the fields of ubiquitous computing. The innovative and contemporary character of these topics has led to a great variety of interdisciplinary contributions. The author gives insights into the evolution of mobile augmented reality prototypes for industrial applications, such as X-Ray visualisation of 3D models of the underground infrastructures which is registered correctly in the users view.

Agent Based Modeling Meets Gaming Simulation written by K. Arai and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-10-10 with Social Science categories.

This collection of excellent papers cultivates a new perspective on agent-based social system sciences, gaming simulation, and their hybridization. Most of the papers included here were presented in the special session titled Agent-Based Modeling Meets Gaming Simulation at ISAGA2003, the 34th annual conference of the International Simulation and Gaming Association (ISAGA) at Kazusa Akademia Park in Kisarazu, Chiba, Japan, August 25–29, 2003. This post-proceedings was supported by the twenty-?rst century COE (Centers of Excellence) program Creation of Agent-Based Social Systems Sciences (ABSSS), established at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2004. The present volume comprises papers submitted to the special session of ISAGA2003 and provides a good example of the diverse scope and standard of research achieved in simulation and gaming today. The theme of the special session at ISAGA2003 was Agent-Based Modeling Meets Gaming Simulation. Nowadays, agent-based simulation is becoming very popular for modeling and solving complex social phenomena. It is also used to arrive at practical solutions to social problems. At the same time, however, the validity of simulation does not exist in the magni?cence of the model. R. Axelrod stresses the simplicity of the agent-based simulation model through the “Keep it simple, stupid” (KISS) principle: As an ideal, simple modeling is essential.
