The contemporary issue of the Anglo-American corporate vale model is short-termism. That is, the model operates in the interest of shareholders overlooking or at a cost of non-shareholder stakeholders’ interests including society and environment. The eye opening evidence is the 2008-09 global financial crisis. In these circumstances, this book examines how three Anglo-American corporate governance jurisdictions, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and India have recently modified their corporate value models for creating long-term sustainable value. The examination continues with the Anglo American corporate value models of two emerging countries also. Finally, the Continental European corporate (German) model is also analyzed. The comparative analysis is useful for revisiting not only the Anglo-Saxon Models in common law countries but also Continental European Models in civil law countries. This book is appropriate for scholars, academics, students, and policy makers who are interested in corporate governance models around the world.

This 2007 book looks at the role of boards in a variety of different countries and contexts, from small and medium-sized enterprises to large corporations. It explores the working style of boards and how they can best achieve their task expectations. Board effectiveness and value creation are shown to be the results of interactions between owners, managers, board members and other actors. Board behaviour is thus seen to be a result of strategizing, norms, board leadership, and the decision-making culture within the boardroom. Combining value creation, behavioural and ethical approaches to the study of boards, this work offers a systematic framework which will be of value to graduate students and researchers in the field of corporate social responsibility and business ethics.

Sustainable Value Creation written by Teun Wolters and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-26 with Business & Economics categories.

Sustainability sheds a whole new light on economic value creation. Sustainable value creation means looking critically at both revenues and costs. Not everything that makes money is of value. Not everything for which no bill is sent is 'free'. This book explains how this is the case and what it means to incorporate sustainability into a company’s strategy and manage activities based on sustainable principles. At the same time, it keeps an eye on the broader societal context in which companies operate, such climate change policies, the SDGs and ESG finance. Since the launch of the concept of sustainable development, many policies at various institutional levels have focused on reducing environmental damage and social ills. This book reflects this broader context. However, despite many serious efforts, it cannot be denied that these policies do not stand up against continued economic growth and a growing global population. This is why this book also stresses that more radical approaches are needed for a successful transformation towards a sustainable society. Businesses should not be content to wait and see what lies ahead. They need to proactively take ownership of the change process that is needed. The book has eight chapters that discuss the various aspects of sustainable value creation from different points of view, including sustainable management and chain management as well as sustainable accounting and reporting. It gives a concise but well-underpinned picture of what sustainable business means today.
