This book brings together research articles and state-of-the-art surveys in broad areas of optimization and numerical analysis with particular emphasis on algorithms. The discussion also focuses on advances in monotone operator theory and other topics from variational analysis and nonsmooth optimization, especially as they pertain to algorithms and concrete, implementable methods. The theory of monotone operators is a central framework for understanding and analyzing splitting algorithms. Topics discussed in the volume were presented at the interdisciplinary workshop titled Splitting Algorithms, Modern Operator Theory, and Applications held in Oaxaca, Mexico in September, 2017. Dedicated to Jonathan M. Borwein, one of the most versatile mathematicians in contemporary history, this compilation brings theory together with applications in novel and insightful ways.

This book offers a presentation of some new trends in operator theory and operator algebras, with a view to their applications. It consists of separate papers written by some of the leading practitioners in the field. The content is put together by the three editors in a way that should help students and working mathematicians in other parts of the mathematical sciences gain insight into an important part of modern mathematics and its applications. While different specialist authors are outlining new results in this book, the presentations have been made user friendly with the aid of tutorial material. In fact, each paper contains three things: a friendly introduction with motivation, tutorial material, and new research. The authors have strived to make their results relevant to the rest of mathematics. A list of topics discussed in the book includes wavelets, frames and their applications, quantum dynamics, multivariable operator theory, $C*$-algebras, and von Neumann algebras. Some longer papers present recent advances on particular, long-standing problems such as extensions and dilations, the Kadison-Singer conjecture, and diagonals of self-adjoint operators.

Noncommutative Function Theoretic Operator Theory And Applications written by Joseph A. Ball and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-16 with Mathematics categories.

This concise monograph explores how core ideas in Hardy space function theory and operator theory continue to be useful and informative in new settings, leading to new insights for noncommutative multivariable operator theory. Beginning with a review of the confluence of system theory ideas and reproducing kernel techniques, the book then covers representations of backward-shift-invariant subspaces in the Hardy space as ranges of observability operators, and representations for forward-shift-invariant subspaces via a Beurling–Lax representer equal to the transfer function of the linear system. This pair of backward-shift-invariant and forward-shift-invariant subspace form a generalized orthogonal decomposition of the ambient Hardy space. All this leads to the de Branges–Rovnyak model theory and characteristic operator function for a Hilbert space contraction operator. The chapters that follow generalize the system theory and reproducing kernel techniques to enable an extension of the ideas above to weighted Bergman space multivariable settings.

This book provides a largely self-contained account of the main results of convex analysis and optimization in Hilbert space. A concise exposition of related constructive fixed point theory is presented, that allows for a wide range of algorithms to construct solutions to problems in optimization, equilibrium theory, monotone inclusions, variational inequalities, best approximation theory, and convex feasibility. The book is accessible to a broad audience, and reaches out in particular to applied scientists and engineers, to whom these tools have become indispensable.

This book is dedicated to the memory of Israel Gohberg (1928–2009) – one of the great mathematicians of our time – who inspired innumerable fellow mathematicians and directed many students. The volume reflects the wide spectrum of Gohberg’s mathematical interests. It consists of more than 25 invited and peer-reviewed original research papers written by his former students, co-authors and friends. Included are contributions to single and multivariable operator theory, commutative and non-commutative Banach algebra theory, the theory of matrix polynomials and analytic vector-valued functions, several variable complex function theory, and the theory of structured matrices and operators. Also treated are canonical differential systems, interpolation, completion and extension problems, numerical linear algebra and mathematical systems theory.

M G Krein S Lectures On Entire Operators written by Miroslav Lʹvovich Gorbachuk and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Mathematics categories.

This book is devoted to the theory of entire Hermitian operators, an important branch of functional analysis harmoniously combining the methods of operator theory and the theory of analytic functions. This theory anables various problems of classical and modern analysis to be looked at from a uniform point of view. In addition, it serves as a source for setting and solving many new problems in both theories. The three chapters of the book are based on the notes written by his students of M. G. Krein's lectures on the theory of entire operators with (1,1) deficiency index which he delivered in 1961 at the Pedagogical Institute of Odessa, and on his works on the extension theory of Hermitian operators and the theory of analytic functions. The theory is further developed in the direction of solving the problems set up by Krein at ICM-66 in the first two appendices. The first concerns the case of Hermitian operators with arbitrary defect numbers, entire with respect to an ordinary gauge and to a generalized one as well. The other focuses on the entire operators representable by differential operators. The third appendix is the translation from Russian of the unpublished notes of Krein's lecture in which, in particular, the place of the theory of entire operators in the whole analysis is elucidated. In Krein's mathematical heritage the theory of entire operators occupies a special position.

The first of the annual Operator Theory conferences in Ti mi~oara held four years ago was a meeting of operator theory spe cialists from the National Institute for Scientific and Techni cal Creation in Bucharest and from the University of Timi~oara. Since then, the participation to these conferences has greatly increased, by being attended first by operator theorists from allover the country and (since 1978) by an increasing number of foreign mathematicians. Thus the 1980 Conference can be regarded as a truly international Operator Theory meeting, fifteen coun tries being represented at it. These conferences are conceived as a means to promote the cooperation between specialists in all areas of Operator Theory. Among the main topics in 1980 were: dilation theory, invariant subspaces, connections with the theory of cX-algebras, subnormal operators, multidimensional functional calculus etc. Though not included in this volume, we would like to mention that in 1980 some special sessions concerning other fields of Functional Ana lysis were organized at the Operator Theory conference. The research contracts of the Department of Mathematics of INCREST with the National Council for Sciences and Technoloa,y of Romania provided the means for developping the research activi ty in Functional Analysis; these contracts constitute the gene rous framework for these meetings.
