Die stark gestiegenen elektrischen Anforderungen in Fahrzeugbordnetzen können in kritischen Situationen die Spannungsstabilität gefährden. Auch ohne neue Komponenten gibt es jedoch noch Potenzial zur prädiktiven, aktiven Stabilisierung. In dem von Tom P. Kohler entwickelten System werden kritische Situationen unter Nutzung der in Fahrzeugen verfügbaren Informationen frühzeitig erkannt. Das Leistungsmanagement berechnet daraufhin die Auswirkungen auf das Bordnetz und führt geeignete Konditionierungsmaßnahmen durch. Die konsequente Anwendung kybernetischer Methoden ermöglicht, mit einem schlanken Managementsystem komplexe Bordnetze zu beherrschen. Lokale, autonome Funktionen und eine hierarchische Systemstruktur stellen ohne aufwendige Berechnungen sicher, dass immer die effektivsten Maßnahmen durchgeführt werden. Gleichzeitig sind damit ohne zeitkritische Kommunikation kurze Reaktionszeiten möglich. Das System wurde vom Autor auf einem Echtzeitrechner implementiert und an einem Bordnetzprüfstand erprobt.
