Molecular and Cellular Enzymology addresses not only experienced enzymologists but also students, teachers and academic and industrial researchers who are confronted with enzymological problems during their fundamental or applied research. In this field there is an urgent need for training in order to meet the requirements of both research and industrial endeavours. This book consists of several levels. Practical aspects and elementary explanations are given for the benefit of non-specialists’ and students’ understanding. In order to facilitate the task of students, two typographies have been adopted. The main text corresponds to basic knowledge, whereas text in a smaller font provides more specialised information. Specialists will also find topics more deeply expounded with the principal bibliographic references cited. The bibliography, however, is not exhaustive; the choice includes general books and review articles as well as some specialised articles. In this book, for the first time, the different molecular and cellular aspects of enzymology are presented together. Until now, there has been no book available in which these different aspects are treated in the same volume. In addition, besides the theoretical developments, this book provides a wealth of practical information for experimentalists.

Proteins constitute the working-class molecules of the cell. Hence, understanding the way they act is a prerequisite for understanding how a cell functions and how life evolves. Aspects such as the protein-ligand relationship, recognition, protein evolution by point mutation, enzyme-substrate interactions, behaviour of an enzyme in a living cell, control and dynamics of enzyme networks as well as the physico-chemical background of enzyme actions and multi-enzyme complexes are comprehensively treated in this volume.

Supramolecular Enzyme Organization written by Peter Friedrich and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-20 with Science categories.

Supramolecular Enzyme Organization: Quaternary Structure and Beyond provides a comprehensive discussion of enzyme interactions. It attempts to place conceptually related phenomena in a common perspective by first scrutinizing enzyme interactions at the quaternary level and then moving on towards higher orders of organization. The book begins with a discussion of the hierarchy of enzymes, covering the structure of monomeric enzymes, enzyme structures beyond the monomeric stage, and protein-protein interactions. Separate chapters cover the chemistry of protein associations; the quaternary structure of enzymes; multienzyme systems; multienzyme complexes and conjugates; the association of enzymes with cellular structures; and metabolite compartmentation. The final chapters discuss trends in the study of enzyme systems and the dialectics of enzymology. This book is intended, not for the specialist, who knows much more about the individual questions than the text offers, but rather for the general biochemical reader interested in enzyme organization. There is practically no mathematics involved. Instead, quite elementary things are described, so that students and biologists with less background knowledge on enzymes will be able to join in.

"Yet another cell and molecular biology book? At the very least, you would think that if I was going to write a textbook, I should write one in an area that really needs one instead of a subject that already has multiple excellent and definitive books. So, why write this book, then? First, it's a course that I have enjoyed teaching for many years, so I am very familiar with what a student really needs to take away from this class within the time constraints of a semester. Second, because it is a course that many students take, there is a greater opportunity to make an impact on more students' pocketbooks than if I were to start off writing a book for a highly specialized upper- level course. And finally, it was fun to research and write, and can be revised easily for inclusion as part of our next textbook, High School Biology."--Open Textbook Library.

Introduction To Enzymology written by Alan H. Mehler and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-12 with Science categories.

Introduction to Enzymology focuses on the processes, methodologies, reactions, and approaches involved in enzyme chemistry. The book first offers information on the hydrolysis of peptides and proteins and fermentation and oxidation of major metabolic fuels. Discussions focus on oxidation of fatty acids, alternative pathways of carbohydrate metabolism, Krebs citric acid cycle, free energy and the concept of bond energy, pyruvate oxidation and acetyl coenzyme A formation, and glycolysis. The text then elaborates on the transfer of oxygen, hydrogen, and electrons and sugars and sugar derivatives. The publication takes a look at polynucleotides and their components, amino acids, and acids and acid derivatives. Topics include carbonic anhydrase, mechanism of action of pyridoxal phosphate enzymes, aromatic ring biosynthesis and metabolism of phenylalanine and tyrosine, metabolism of sulfur-containing amino acids, and oxidation of amino acids. The book is a valuable reference for chemists and researchers interested in enzymology.
