Timely, fun, and educational. It makes a great conversation starter for moms, dads, and anyone else who loves the healing herb!” —Mary Jane Gibson, journalist, actress & host at Weed+Grub “Brand is refreshingly frank about sticky topics like overuse, how to talk to kids about cannabis, and what to do when things go wrong. She also includes an incredibly useful buying guide for those (like me) who feel overwhelmed by the dizzying array of specialized products on the market today.” —Alia Volz, author of Home Baked: My Mom, Marijuana, and the Stoning of San Francisco “Just how Brand becomes one of weed’s most knowledgeable and ardent crusaders is a story you’ll have to follow in the book, but that she’s been to hell and back—with cannabis riding shotgun—makes her wisdom all the more hard-won and reliable. This is an honest, unapologetic book for real women.” —Melinda Misuraca, Project CBD

A blazingly funny, heartfelt memoir from the daughter of the larger-than-life woman who ran Sticky Fingers Brownies, an underground bakery that distributed thousands of marijuana brownies per month and helped provide medical marijuana to AIDS patients in San Francisco--for fans of Armistead Maupin and Patricia Lockwood During the '70s in San Francisco, Alia's mother ran the underground Sticky Fingers Brownies, delivering upwards of 10,000 illegal marijuana edibles per month throughout the circus-like atmosphere of a city in the throes of major change. She exchanged psychic readings with Alia's future father, and thereafter had a partner in business and life. Decades before cannabusiness went mainstream, when marijuana was as illicit as heroin, they ingeniously hid themselves in plain sight, parading through town--and through the scenes and upheavals of the day, from Gay Liberation to the tragedy of the Peoples Temple--in bright and elaborate outfits, the goods wrapped in hand-designed packaging and tucked into Alia's stroller. But the stars were not aligned forever and, after leaving the city and a shoulda-seen-it-coming divorce, Alia and her mom returned to San Francisco in the mid-80s, this time using Sticky Fingers' distribution channels to provide medical marijuana to friends and former customers now suffering the depredations of AIDS. Exhilarating, laugh-out-loud funny, and heartbreaking,Home Bakedcelebrates an eccentric and remarkable extended family, taking us through love, loss, and finding home.

"You are about to enter a world of drug smuggling, drug greed, and drug murder." With those words, the West Palm Beach assistant DA began the 1986 murder trial of Judy "Haas" McNelis. The only woman on the U.S. Federal Marshal's 15 Most-Wanted List, she gained infamy as head of the "Haas Organization," a reputed $267 million per year marijuana empire. But before her jet-set lifestyle as a drug "queen-pin," Haas was simply a divorcee with two young children and a penchant for growing pot. David McNelis' candid memoir recounts his life with a brash, free-spirited mother determined to achieve success in the male-dominated world of international narcotics smuggling. A studious kid striving for normalcy, McNelis is thrust into an extraordinary adventure where dealers, smugglers, daredevil pilots, federal agents, hitmen, and even an accused KGB spy all become part of "normal" life.

Sue and Lou never had any fears or doubts about raising their three children. They were not like their parents. They welcomed the teenage years. They knew their kids might experiment with drugs and alcohol, just like they had. So they talked with their kids about their own experiences they had as teenagers. As a family they were very close. They took their kids camping to Glamis, the desert, the beach and the Colorado River. They went to Big Bear every winter and they golfed almost every weekend as a family. By the time their youngest was in high school, their oldest was already 24 and their middle child was 19. Their youngest would always tell them not to worry, that he would never be like his older brother and sister. Young Adam had witnessed all the trying times his parents had with his two older siblings; alcohol, drugs, house parties, and pre-marital sex. Adam's friends always came over to the house and Sue and Lou knew them all. They were all good kids. But when Adam told his mom he had smoked marijuana, it was not like when the older siblings had experimented with it. Sue and Lou would quickly discover he was using it to escape from the hurt and pain he felt after his first love broke up with him. But what Sue and Lou didn't know was that their worst nightmare was growing in their youngest son. Without having a true understanding of addiction, this family will go through a hell they could have never imagined. In order to keep from having a breakdown Sue started writing about how this all started. It all began with a story Adam wrote in his Freshman English class titled “The Day I told my Mom I Smoke Pot”.

Tell Your Children written by Alex Berenson and has been published by Free Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-18 with Political Science categories.

In “a brilliant antidote to all the…false narratives about pot” (American Thinker), an award-winning author and former New York Times reporter reveals the link between teenage marijuana use and mental illness, and a hidden epidemic of violence caused by the drug—facts the media have ignored as the United States rushes to legalize cannabis. Recreational marijuana is now legal in nine states. Advocates argue cannabis can help everyone from veterans to cancer sufferers. But legalization has been built on myths—that marijuana arrests fill prisons; that most doctors want to use cannabis as medicine; that it can somehow stem the opiate epidemic; that it is beneficial for mental health. In this meticulously reported book, Alex Berenson, a former New York Times reporter, explodes those myths, explaining that almost no one is in prison for marijuana; a tiny fraction of doctors write most authorizations for medical marijuana, mostly for people who have already used; and marijuana use is linked to opiate and cocaine use. Most of all, THC—the chemical in marijuana responsible for the drug’s high—can cause psychotic episodes. “Alex Berenson has a reporter’s tenacity, a novelist’s imagination, and an outsider’s knack for asking intemperate questions” (Malcolm Gladwell, The New Yorker), as he ranges from the London institute that is home to the scientists who helped prove the cannabis-psychosis link to the Colorado prison where a man now serves a thirty-year sentence after eating a THC-laced candy bar and killing his wife. He sticks to the facts, and they are devastating. With the US already gripped by one drug epidemic, Tell Your Children is a “well-written treatise” (Publishers Weekly) that “takes a sledgehammer to the promised benefits of marijuana legalization, and cannabis enthusiasts are not going to like it one bit” (Mother Jones).

Significant changes have taken place in the policy landscape surrounding cannabis legalization, production, and use. During the past 20 years, 25 states and the District of Columbia have legalized cannabis and/or cannabidiol (a component of cannabis) for medical conditions or retail sales at the state level and 4 states have legalized both the medical and recreational use of cannabis. These landmark changes in policy have impacted cannabis use patterns and perceived levels of risk. However, despite this changing landscape, evidence regarding the short- and long-term health effects of cannabis use remains elusive. While a myriad of studies have examined cannabis use in all its various forms, often these research conclusions are not appropriately synthesized, translated for, or communicated to policy makers, health care providers, state health officials, or other stakeholders who have been charged with influencing and enacting policies, procedures, and laws related to cannabis use. Unlike other controlled substances such as alcohol or tobacco, no accepted standards for safe use or appropriate dose are available to help guide individuals as they make choices regarding the issues of if, when, where, and how to use cannabis safely and, in regard to therapeutic uses, effectively. Shifting public sentiment, conflicting and impeded scientific research, and legislative battles have fueled the debate about what, if any, harms or benefits can be attributed to the use of cannabis or its derivatives, and this lack of aggregated knowledge has broad public health implications. The Health Effects of Cannabis and Cannabinoids provides a comprehensive review of scientific evidence related to the health effects and potential therapeutic benefits of cannabis. This report provides a research agendaâ€"outlining gaps in current knowledge and opportunities for providing additional insight into these issuesâ€"that summarizes and prioritizes pressing research needs.

It S Just A Plant written by Ricardo Cortés and has been published by Akashic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-22 with Juvenile Fiction categories.

A beautifully illustrated picture book that gives parents a way to discuss marijuana with children without encouraging them to use it. "It's Just a Plant follows the journey of a young girl named Jackie, who becomes curious about cannabis after she discovers her parents smoking a joint in their bedroom. Jackie's education about marijuana includes visits to several members of her community, including a farmer who cultivates the plant and a doctor who advises that cannabis should only be used by adults...Cortés' book offers an opportunity for parents to discuss many aspects of the conversation around marijuana." --High Times "Part of a growing category of books that attempt to explain difficult and complex topics to children, simply. Whether you're looking at Death Is Stupid, by Anastasia Higginbotham, or A is for Activist, by Innosanto Nagara, children's fiction is much less likely to shy away from topics that were previously reserved for those considered to be 'adults,' or to cloud those topics in euphemisms." --Literary Hub, selected by Molly Odintz for LitHub Recommends "As controversial as the topic may seem for a kids' book, [Cortés is]...right. It's crucial for parents to be open and educate their kids about marijuana (and any other drugs, really) in a factual, non-judgmental way--especially if parents are using themselves. After all, keeping drugs' existence a mystery is only going to spark curious kids' interests further." --SheKnows "With more home schooling taking place due to COVID-19, Ricardo Cortés hopes It's Just a Plant can spark family-friendly cannabis education." --Mugglehead "We've all heard the sentiment that the more we keep our kids away from something and paint it as 'dangerous' or 'bad,' the more likely they are to be interested in whatever that is. The same can be said for conversations like his--if we avoid or brush off any questions relating to marijuana for our kids, they're going to get the information from somewhere and it just feels a whole lot safer knowing they're getting the right information from you--or a book like this." --Fatherly "Absolutely 'kid friendly' in tone, organization and presentation, It's Just a Plant: A Children's Story about Marijuana is especially recommended for family, preschool, elementary school, and community library...collections." --Midwest Book Review It's Just a Plant is a children's book that follows the journey of a young girl as she learns about the marijuana plant from a cast of characters including her parents, a local farmer, a doctor, and a police officer. Marijuana can be hard to talk about. Many parents have tried it, millions use it, and most feel awkward about disclosing such histories (often ducking the question), for fear that telling kids the truth might encourage them to experiment too. Meanwhile, the "drug facts" children learn in school can be more frightening than educational, blaming pot for everything from teenage pregnancy to terrorism. A child's first awareness of drugs should come from a better source. It's Just a Plant is a story for parents who want to discuss the complexities of pot with their kids in a thoughtful, fact-oriented manner. The book also features an afterword by Marsha Rosenbaum, PhD, founder of the Safety First Project for drug education and director emerita of the San Francisco office of the Drug Policy Alliance, the nation's leading organization working to end the war on drugs.
