Harris would have been a rich man today if his father had not invested in U.S. government bonds in the late 1960s. The Treasury promptly paid the interest contractually due on those bonds, but high rates of inflation and interest in the 1970s and early 1980s reduced their prices and wiped out most of their purchasing power. Instead of inheriting a fortune, Harris received just enough to buy a midsized automobile. That his father had worked so long and so hard for so little saddened Harris. If only his father had understood a few simple facts: when the supply of money increases faster than the demand for it, prices rise and inflation ensues. When inflation increases, so too do nominal interest rates. And when interest rates increase, the prices of bonds (and many other types of assets that pay fixed sums) fall. Jorge's father didn't lack intelligence. Many people, even some well-educated ones, do not understand the basics of banking, money, and finance. And they and their loved ones pay for it, sometimes dearly. Arthur knows that all too well. Her grandparents didn't understand the significance of portfolio diversification (the tried-and-true rule that you shouldn't put all of your eggs in one basket), so they invested their entire life savings in a single company called Enron. They lost everything (except their Social Security checks) after that bloated behemoth went bankrupt in December 2001. Instead of lavishing him with gifts, Arthur's grandparents drained resources away from their grandson by frequently seeking helps from Arthur's parents. When the grandparents died-without life insurance, yet another mistake-Arthur's parents had to pay big bucks for their "last expenses." This book contains proven steps and strategies on how to improve your understanding towards money, banking and finance system and help you to master money saving and investing habits. Your money making capabilities depends on your understanding of the finance system and banking.

Welcome to the first step in your personal finance journey. Whether this is the first time you have seen materials on money or have been exploring money topics for some time and are looking to understand in a robust format, “Everything About Money” will serve you well. The materials in this book are ones that do not age, over time as your understanding of the materials matures it will pay you in the form of cash in your bank account from the decisions you will be able to make. The book is structured as if you were taking a course on money at your local college, beginning with orientation and moving throughout the course and understanding more and more complicated materials. By the end of this book, you should be able to identify consciously what type of money decisions you are making and how they affect your overall money picture. This book was written for two reasons. The first is that as an accountant, people generally come to you with money questions. Over time you begin to get the same questions over and over. This issue seen with money is that there needs to be a comprehensive understanding of money to make decisions on your own. People often seem to think asking specific questions about one transaction is sufficient to make a good decision. The truth of it is that understanding your big picture, how a transaction affects your ecosystem of money, and what the costs over the long run are all things that need to be considered and cannot be understood without a foundational understanding of money - that is what this book serves to do, give you the fundamentals so that you can think about your money in a framed way. This is not enough though; money is a lifelong journey of learning. The second reason this book was written is because we see people dig themselves into a “hole” too often, and the solution often takes years to get out of. We will understand later in the course the specifics of this, but generally because people turn to banks to give them money to purchase things, we see people move from working for themselves and their families, to working for the bank, paying the bank month over month fees for borrowing money, and eventually getting into a corner where lifestyle, income, and expenses do not align. This book hopes to frame this scenario too often and move you away from these habits to find a better money picture for yourself and your family. You have taken the first step, now let us get through this course!

The book Money and Banking Made Easy places unique emphasis on the Five Core Principles, the interest rate, financial markets and financial institutions, central banks, monetary policy and financial stability, modern monetary economics and money and banking in Islam. This is a great book for any student that is exposed to questions of money and banking for the first time. The book is certainly comprehensive in splitting the contents of the course in multiple choice questions and short answers questions. The idea behind including multiple choice questions is to get you to think for yourselves. The short answers to the questions are deliberately short and right to the point and smartly summarize the chapters' content. The book will be best suited for beginners with first encounters with money and banking. For others, a skillful instructor can easily point out on what they should focus (and where are few remaining typos). The text is comprehensive and set in a way that will serve broad set of instructor's preferences. One of the best attributes of the book is the fact that the author never loses its focus on banks and monetary policy. It is hoped that the book will be an asset for students in particular and people connected with this subject. And lastly, Money and Banking Made Easy will go a long way in enabling a reader to get a grasp of the world of money and banking. The author, Nazia Khawar did her MBA in MIT from Virtual University of Pakistan. She has also written two books; Principles of Management Made Easy and Principles of Marketing Made Easy. Principles of Management Made Easy was published by National Book Foundation of Pakistan free of cost. With the publication of this book, the author has covered the main areas of any business concern; Management, Marketing and Money and Banking.
